We both knew it wasn’t real,
Already mom wanted a future that stays bright,
When I told her I wanted to be a poet, she said
“You must be out of my sight!
She wanted something “cool”:
I reminisce about when students in class offered me a standing ovation,
I knew mom wanted something that was more than that
By that time I was merely a dropout from school.
I fell in love with poems because of my introverted conservation.

I had a gap year,
I lost myself in the hands of poetry,
I wanted to fulfil my mom’s desire,
I prayed for change to the Messiah.
Seeing many kids thrive and also feeling dope,
Made me stressed ‘cause I matriculated,
I felt no life to live that was triumph-related.
