It was in the early hours of the morning when I heard my phone ring. I thought it was a dream, mind you, the morning sleep was so good. I opened my eyes to see who was calling only to find no caller ID, but I still answered the phone.

“Babe, I saw this nice ring at Sterns when I was at town and imagined you wearing it.” It was a drunk man’s voice, it was my boyfriend.

“Why such a call so early in the morning?” I asked him.

“Babe, I’m right by your door, please come open for me?” he pleaded.

Mind you, we were not staying together and regardless of how much he drank he always knew the way to his home, but that day he came to my house.

“Love, stop joking,” I said, as I slowly closed my eyes.

“Babe, I’m freezing out here, please open up,” he said.

That’s when I got up and actually heard his voice by the door. I quickly put my gown on and immediately headed to the door. I opened it and almost collapsed when I saw him on bended knee holding a sterling ring, his T-shirt ripped off on one side and full of blood.

Before I could even breathe a word he asked me if I would make him the happiest man alive. I said yes, while trying to hold off my tears. He then collapsed in my arms before I could even ask him what happened to his T-shirt or where the blood came from.

That moment my adrenalin went high, I carried him on my back as I ran to his car and drove straight to the clinic. As we got there, he was put on a stretcher. I didn’t know what was going on in my head at that time.

30 minutes later, I saw an ambulance outside the clinic. He had lost so much blood. I couldn’t stop crying as I started to imagine losing him. He was my home. I then followed the ambulance to the hospital. At the speed of light, we were already there and he was attended by the doctors.

“Will he be fine?” I asked the first doctor I saw after an hour of sitting in those uncomfortable hospital chairs.

As the doctor removed his gloves, my mind just said he was gone. I could not control my tears, everything went blank before I could even hear what the doctor was saying.

“Honey, can you hear me?” I heard, as I slowly opened my eyes. It felt like I had been sleeping for years. As I fully opened my eyes, I saw his eyes looking straight into mine.

“You collapsed five days ago and went into coma for two days,” my fiancee said.

He was well. He was healthy, no ripped T-shirt or blood.

Two hours later I was discharged. In two months time we got married and lived happily ever after. I had no idea I loved him that much.
