In the following piece, we are going to discuss the three terms that are often confusing among young people which are Flirting, Vibing and Dating [umjolo].
We often hear these terms being said but I think we don’t understand what they really mean. This is also the cause of being heartbroken because we couldn’t really distinguish between being loved, whether we flirted or vibe with that certain person.

What is Flirting?
Flirting is behaving or it is behaving as though as sexually attracted to another person but not necessarily having feelings or being serious about them. It is usually based on playful intentions and getting sexually active with another person yet not wanting to commit to them or form a relationship with them.

What is Vibing
Vibing is much deeper than flirting. It is getting along with the other person very well. You have the same outlooks as they do and you feel comfortable being around them and talking to them. You enjoy each other’s company and yes it can involve kissing, and hugging but there are rare occasions of sexual intercourse. Both partners do not want to commit to each other and they often say ‘I’m not looking for a relationship’. It can also be friends with benefits.

What is Dating?
Dating is a stage of a romantic relationship whereby two people meet socially with the aim of assessing each other’s suitability as a prospective partners in a future intimate relationship. In dating there are no hidden feelings, everything is shared between two partners to create a bond. You make your intentions clear with each other. It also comes in five stages: attraction, reality, commitment, intimacy and engagement.

So before you start getting sleepless nights thinking about that one person ask yourself what you are doing with them. Remember to deal with the truth before the truth deals with you. There is plenty of fish in the sea.
