It was maNtuli calling. “Maaaaaaaaah” Noma screamed as she ran as fast as she could around her mum. “Where were you?” “Just outside ma catching up with friends” lied Noma.
“Get on with the pots it’s getting late and your father will be home soon.”
“Yeeeees ma.”. Noma was all thinking about Sthe and the moment they had shared earlier. She was daydreaming until her mum smelled the burning pot of phuthu. “Ey wena are u crazy why are you burning my pots”
“Eeeeeish ngiyaxolisa Ma I put the stove on high by mistake”
“These children of today thought maNtuli they can never do anything right.”
Night approached, night turned into days, days into weeks. Noma was longing to see Sthe as she was doing everything wrong in the house from running a bath and forgetting to close the tap. Water was dripping all over the houses. Into opening the fridge and just staring inside for minutes. She even feed her put salt thinking it was sugar in her mother’s tea. Can you imagine maNtuli taking a sip and quickly spitting the tea. “Yeeeek! Yey wena ngane ufakeni la etiyeni lami” Noma quickly tasted what was in front of her uuurgh yeeeek its salt”, she said to herself laughing a little at her stupidity. She apologetically to the cup from her mother and made her another cup.
A knock came on her house it was a young 10-year-old boy. “Sis Noma someone sent me for you, there are down the road,” the boy said and left. Noma’s heart was skipping because she knew it was Sthe asking for her. She hurriedly finished up what she was doing and told her mum the was going to a friend’s house. She fix herself and ran out of the house. On the street there was Sthe looking charming as ever. They greeted. “Did I not disturb you “? Sthe asked. “No I have finished already all my chores” replied Noma. Noma can we go to my place today my uncle is not there. Noma agreed and they went. They got to Sthe’s place and Noma sat on the sofa and was looking at the place. It was not a fancy place but it was very clean. Sthe came from the kitchen with some juice and a packet of chocolate biscuit. They sat and chatted about each other and everything else. Sthe lived with his uncle his mother and father are not together anymore but both are still living. Sthe was raised mostly by hi granny emakhaya. “Noma ngiyakuthanda and i want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to build a family with you” From there on Sthe and Noma were officially a couple. They didn’t hide their love for each other everyone knew about them Noma’s parents have tolerated the relationship. They tried to reprimand Noma but she was all deaf ear as she deep inlove with Sthe.
Their relationship survived three years after three years they were still together and Noma discovered that she was pregnant. “Sthe I’m pregnant I was not feeling good and I went to the clinic, the checked me and told me I was 3 weeks pregnant”. Sthe couldn’t believe what Noma had just said. He jumped up and down with joy, “really babes are we really pregnant” as he kneed down to listen to Noma’s tummy. Yes babes I’m really am. They were both happy. MaNtuli didn’t take the news well but as time went by she let go. Months went by very quickly. On the 7th month Noma was at Sthe’s house. “Babes I have cramps on my tummy ” Should i get you warm water to drink babes? “Maybe,” Noma said. She sipped the water but the pain got stronger. She couldn’t move as her back was carrying a hot heater on her lower back. She sweated profusely and felt something was coming out. Sthe was pacing with anxiety. He thought that they must just go up to her place. He gently picked her up from the sofa. As she was standing up blood began to flood her legs such a pool of blood. They both panic. “Sthe what is happening, why am I bleeding”!? Sthe rushed to the toilet and got a towel and a bowl of warm water. He clean Noma up covered her with clean towel and they slowly anxiously rushed to Noma’s house.
Noma went inside and explained to her mum what just happened. Sthe stood on the street as he was scared to enter out of respect. Yes even though he got Noma pregnant he still respected her home by not setting his foot on the yard. MaNtuli quickly got Noma into clean clothes took the maternity card packed her small back and out they went to the street. They didn’t have a car back then. Sthe was still standing on the street he saw them and joined them. Noma told him that they were going to the clinic. MaNtuli tolerated Sthe not that he was happy about their relationship. He greeted maNtuli.
“Sawubona Ma” bowing his head down. “Yebo mfana wami” maNtuli said back. All the way in the taxi they were quite. They got to the clinic put Noma on the wheelchair and wheeled her into the ER. The doctor was already waiting for her. She was assessed and immediately the doctor insisted that she should be transferred to the hospital. Her Bp was normal her heartbeat was normal and that of the baby. The nurse let her maNtuli and Sthe know of the situation. They said their goodbyes to Noma her promising them to call when dealt with at the hospital. As soon as she arrived at the hospital the doctor was already patiently waiting for her.
