Caroline couldn’t live without Munashe for long. It was over but she knew she loved him with all her heart. She kept staring at her phone, even at work, thinking he would send a message. At school she didn’t even see him at all even in all the places they hung out at.
In her heart she longed for his face, she missed him.
Her phone rang and she jumped happily, but then saw it was Sandy.
“Cuz, I heard about your breakup. How’re you doing?” she asked.
“Eeish, it’s hard, I love him,” she answered. Sandy told her to be strong before cutting the call. Caroline couldn’t concentrate very well, it was like her life was fallig apart.
“Don’t bring your personal feelings at work, you will get fired,” Rudo said and went to serve a table.
Caroline started doing her work but her mind was elsewhere. She missed Munashe, it had been a week since she dumped him. She saw Trevor in the restaurent, he was sitting at her table.
“Hi, what can I get you?” she asked as he sat down.
“Can I have the menu? Oh Caro how are you?” he asked looking up at her.
She gave him the menu and looked down.
“I am fine. How is Munashe?” she asked, still looking at the floor.
“I know you two love each other but you’re always having a lover’s tiff. Just tell him you miss him,” he said smiling.
She couldn’t tell him how she felt. Then she looked at him and gave her best work smile.
“What can I serve you?”
“Tea and the Sun breakfast,” he said with his big eyes all over Caroline.
She wrote it down and left. She hated that she was the one at fault. It looked like Munashe talked about her to Trevor but she hated being discussed in her absence. The tray with Trevor’s food came quickly then she saw Rudo staring at her.
“Please take it to him,” she begged.
“It’s your table, unless you share the tip,” she said with a smile taking the tray to Trevor.
Caroline felt relieved, she didn’t want to discuss Munashe with Trevor. Trevor left a big tip and she had to share it with Rudo.
Everything became boring. She became selfish and rude to her friends. Everyone at work avoid her and she didn’t even smile at customers. The manager took notice of it and called her in his office.
“What’s happening to you? What’s the code we have at work? Smile, be effective and fast. I don’t care about your personal feelings, take them home and leave them there. Are we clear?” Mr Morris said angrily.
She nodded, she couldn’t lose her job. Just then she saw some girl wearing a tight, short dress and there was Munashe hugging her. She got angrily and took a jar of water and went straight to him.
“I just dumped you and you’ve already moved on,” she shouted and poured the water over his head.
“Caro, it’s not what you think,” he said trying to hold her hand. She left him standing there and went and served her table. Munashe left.
At lunch timeshe she sat quietly, now feeling over Munashe. He couldn’t wait to show her that he had moved on.
“You taught that boy some manners, you should have beat the hell of that bitch,” Chipo said and laughed.
“Some men are cheaters and this boy of yours…,” Rudo said and looked at Caroline who ate quietly. “Join us this weekend, you will meet handsome man,” she continued.
Maybe going out with Chipo and Rudo could be good. To think she nolonger associated with Portia and Musa because she wanted her relationship to work. No, she was gonna have a life again and she couldn’t wait.
