The rainbow, I beheld its loveliness
Representing triumph over setbacks
Daily faced by children with dry lips
And despondent grumbling vessels.

The rainbow rejuvenates the strength
Of hopeless hobos turning dustbins
Just to have the only meal of the day
Which they curse for it causes more starvation.

The rainbow brought tears of joy
To the bruised, loving women
Daily beaten by their drunk men
Whose wrath they can’t control.

The rainbow consoled innocent kids
And persons with mental disabilities
Locked in rooms separately
So visitors wouldn’t see them.

The rainbow glowed to the wretched souls
In the gutter, poverty-stricken and unemployed
Suffering and inured to the unpleasant
Scent of urine and bursting pipes.
