It was late in the afternoon
When I saw dark clouds
Heading towards the Eastern side
Shortly after the wind whirled
And drops of rain followed.

Mothers carrying babies on their backs,
Taking what was outside inside.
Shepherds from the fields were driving cattle back home.

In the village there were screams of delighted children,
Washed clothes tattered like wings in the line.
Lighting stroke, it rumbled and rained,
Rained as though it was poured out in buckets.

After the rain stopped
We all came out to see damage
All the mealies in the field were down
Sadness reached our hearts
