(A distance away, a well camouflaged lion is watching the five conspiring buffalos with curiosity. It is now late afternoon and the shadows of nature have covered the entire wild. Two fully grown lion brothers, Leo, the younger one, and Jack, the older one, are lazing next to a buffalo carcass. They are done feasting on it and only its bones remain.)
Jack: Mm, this was the best meal ever!
Leo: It was delicious indeed. Tell me, brother, what do you think those ugly fat creatures were conspiring about?
Jack: (Laughs) Conspiring? Those fatties got no brains to think. Relax.
Leo: (Worriedly) Brother, I’m serious here, their gathering looked very serious.
Jack: Well, serious or not. The fact is we’re untouchable. Remember, we’re the kings of the jungle, they won’t take any fatal risk like challenging us. They’ve got families to feed and fend for. Whatever they were planning is not about us.
Leo: OK then. I guess there’s nothing to worry about. (He rests his head on his front legs).
(Heavy leaf-crushing steps approach but Jack hears nothing.)
Leo: (Vigilantly raises his head) What’s that?
Jack: I’m tired, I’m not falling for your stupid trick.
Leo: Are you saying you’re not hearing that?
Jack: (Angrily) What?
Leo: (Shouts as he flees) Behind you!
(Jack glances behind but it’s too late to run. The ferocious buffalo’s horn had already gored him. He bleeds and dies instantly.)
Bosky: You killed our cubs for what? To fill your stupid belly? For this? (He kicks the lion’s belly)
Belly: Where’s his younger brother?
Bosky: He ran that way, but I hope he got the message.
Bulky: Let’s go guys. (They leave)
(A few minutes later, Leo comes back to his big brother’s carcass. He smells it to check if he’s really gone. Then he leaves to another territory through the growing night.)
Leo: (Heartbroken tone) Goodbye brother.
Tell us: Do you think it’s a good thing for the buffalos to kill the lions?
