My mom came to my room, I was fast asleep forgetting it was Monday, a school day.

“Wake up!” Mom shouted.

Even after her shout, I was still fast asleep. She then took the glass of water that was always beside my bed and spilled some water on me.

“What?! What?!” I woke up as if I had risen from the dead.

“My dear, you are late, go get ready,” she smiled as she walked out of my room.

“Mom…already?” I complained.

My mother was a single parent but she took good care of me and my brother Zach. I got off my bed, walked towards the window and looked through it. The weather was calm outside.

Today will be a great day, I thought and went to the bathroom.

I took my shower and got dressed. I went downstairs, I saw Zach and he was stirring his porridge. Zach always woke up early like Mom.

“Morning Zach,” I said, smiling at him.

“Morning Ponel,” he smiled back.

“Why do you seem happy today?” Mom asked, looking inquisitive.

“The weather is calm today that’s why,” I added while moving to the kitchen.

Zach and I later went in the car ready to leave for school. Mom was making sure that everything was tidy in the house, when she was done, she locked the doors and drove us to school.

When we got back from school, we saw two people standing at our door.

“Mom! Who can that be?” I asked curiously.

“I don’t know, we will find out,” Mom replied.

When we got close to the door, we saw it was my aunt and uncle.

“Auntie! Uncle!” Zach hugged them. I also hugged them.

“Tomika! Roger!” My mom smiled as she walked towards them and hugged them.

“Welcome,” Mom said, unlocking the door.

“Thanks everyone, we missed you,” said my aunt.

“Yes, thank you,” added uncle smiling.

After so many years they were back. We ate supper and then went to bed.

Tuesday morning was breezy and cold. My clock alarm rang.

“Dang it!” I yelled furiously and threw it away. The clock broke.

“That’s better,” I smiled.

“Ponel!” my aunt shouted through the door.

“Eish! coming!” I walked with my eyes half closed and opened the door.

“It’s time to get ready, your mom said so,” she smiled at me.

“Okay,” I went to shower.

I then went to take my breakfast. Mom and Aunt didn’t speak to each other, they were at loggerheads with each other but I didn’t bother to ask.

“Hurry,” commanded mom.

“Okay mom but where is Zach?” I asked while looking around.

“He is sick,” mom walked away.

“Oh! Let me go see him,” I thought to myself.

I went to Zach’s room and I found him asleep.

“Zach! Wake up!” I shouted.

There was no response. I then walked out of his room to the front door. Mom dropped me off and went back home to take care of Zach. When mom got home she found the door open and she walked towards the sitting room. The minute she entered she was shot by thugs. Zach who was tied up was also shot. When I got home with my aunt and uncle, we found them dead and we cried uncontrollably.

Four months later I was living with my uncle and aunt, everything was different. They took my mother’s wealth which changed their hearts. I was treated like a worker in my own house. One afternoon I was passing by aunt’s room, their door was open a little and I overheard their conversation.

“Roger there’s a problem,” aunt said, looking worried.

“What?” uncle asked.

I got my phone out and recorded them. I knew it would help me.

“The police have my sister’s murder evidence,” she cried.

“What? They can’t know we killed her,” uncle looked worried.

I was traumatised to hear that, I instantly ran to the police station while crying and I couldn’t think straight. I needed justice. I gave the police the confession and they were both arrested.

A few weeks later my mother’s wealth was returned and I realised that some people pretend to love you because of what you have. What my uncle and aunt did changed my life, I became rich at a young age thanks to them.
