She sat on her bed,
Trembling with fear and shock
Her day was turned from good to bad
She sat there not really wanting to talk
Her only wish was if only she was dead

“Nozi what’s wrong?”.
Her mother asked upon entering her room
That question to her was as if a sad song
How would she tell her mother of her doom?
“Nozi you’ve been rocking back and forth for too long?”.

At first she doubted,
But then spoke with a trembling voice
“Father forced himself on me”.
Her mother looked at her as if she was crazy
“What?. You’re accusing your father of rape?”.

The moment she heard the word accusing,
She lost all hope
Why would she accuse him of something like that?
“Mama please believe me”.
Tears dropped as she begged her mother
“I wouldn’t lie about something like that”.

“I knew you hated him”
Her mother spat
“But accusing him of something like that?”
Her mother looked at her with disgust
“You go around sleeping with boys
And come back here claiming to be raped?”

“He’s providing for you,
Giving you everything you need”
Her mother said with disbelief
“But you thank him of such accusation?”
Hatred was clear in her mother’s voice
“Who have you been sleeping with Nozi?”

The truth was that she never slept with a boy,
It was her stepfather who took her virginity
What hurt he the most
Was her mother not believing her
Instead of standing by her she was attacking her,
She always thought her mother would was her hero

“If you tell anyone about this again I’ll kill you”.
Her stepfather threatened
“You thought your mother would believe you?”
He licked his burnt lips
“I have to say, I enjoyed you…
More than I enjoy your mother”.

She sat on that bed,
A glass of acid on her hands
One gulp she knew would end her life
She was sorry that she had to go through that
She wished someone would believe her,
Or that she’d get justice one day

“I’m sorry mother for being your daughter”.
She wrote her final words
“But please take care of my sisters,
I don’t want them going through the same”.
She put the paper next to her on the bed
With her eyes closed she gulped the whole glass
