Well, well, well, look who we have here! It’s none other than Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, the man who went from being a private sector guy to the country’s vice president in 2014. Quite an ordinary name, right?

But wait, there’s more! Chilima then decided to start his own political group, the UTM, and toured the entire country with a message of hope for his supporters, trashing the government of the time for being corrupt and inconsiderate of the people of Malawi.

Even though he failed to win the nullified presidential election in 2019, Chilima still had devoted supporters who were ready to vote for him in the 2024 presidential election.

But then, our beloved Chilima decided to partner with Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for the 2020 Fresh Presidential Elections, and oh boy, what a dream team it was for many people in the country!

Chilima had to convince his supporters to start subscribing to Chakwera’s ideas, and we all saw how some of his former devoted blue cadets castigated him for it. But he managed to convince some, and they branded it as the Tonse Alliance, which meant working together, but we all know how that goes, don’t we?

From day one, we all saw how MCP’s bandwagon tried to make sure Chilima looked stupid in people’s eyes, and that Chakwera looked wise and brilliant. What a dynamic duo!

When Chilima announced that he would be the Minister of Finance if people elected the Tonse Alliance into government, Chakwera didn’t even acknowledge or deny the statement.

And after being elected to power, we saw a congratulatory billboard in Lilongwe mounted by MCP functionaries with the faces of Chakwera and his wife, Monica, instead of the pair of Chakwera and Chilima. We noticed the danger.

When appointing his cabinet, Chakwera didn’t give Chilima the country’s purse as the Minister of Finance, even though Chilima had announced he would be the one handling the government’s purse. We also noticed the danger for “Nfana oganiza Bho!”

Even the cabinet itself had less than seven UTM ministers, contrary to what people thought would be an equal distribution of power between UTM and MCP.

At first, we used to hear the phrase “Chilima and I” in President Chakwera’s speeches, but can someone tell me the last time they heard that? Is it a mistake by our beloved in-law that he now forgets the phrase when crafting the president’s speeches? I hope you’ve all started noticing where the danger is.

And now, Chilima is on the bench after being charged with corruption charges, but we can’t really see any embarrassment to him from the MCP bandwagon. However, some of us know what’s happening behind the curtain against the light-skinned vice president.

The UTM names in Chakwera’s cabinet are getting slimmer and slimmer, and we don’t even know how many UTM faces are in the recent appointments. Do you see where the danger is?

Many people who voted for Chilima and Chakwera in 2020 are losing hope in the duo due to how they’re handling the country’s economy, among other things. Now, do you think the Tonse Alliance will get the same or more votes as they garnered in 2020? You know where the danger is for Chilima.

Furthermore, Chilima can’t stand again as Vice President for the country considering the fact that he has served the term for two consecutive terms, the only option for him is the presidency though some legal scholars have some reservation for it. Do you see where the danger is?

Chilima in his press conference last year claimed, there’s agreement between him and Chakwera that there’s going to be power rotation scenario which meant he will be the torch bearer of Tonse Alliance in 2025, but with the current endorsements that Chakwera is getting from MCP do you see the rotation thing happening? Will MCP allow Chilima to lead?

And again Chilima might decide to go solo with his UTM, but with the 50+1% thing in our constitution, I don’t think he can take the mantle by going solo.

Some might say he can partner with Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), but with the current leadership battles in the former rulling party do you see DPP giving the torch bearer role to Chilima? Hell no!

Well, I hope now you have detected where the danger is for the charismatic vice president of this republic.
