Man’s search for meaning is one of the greatest memoirs ever written . It is the story of Victor Frankl, a Jewish man who survived the Holocaust, coming out into the world as a beacon of light . A man whose tragic story transformed him into formulating “logotherapy”, a branch of pyschology that purports that people can only be their best selves when they have something to live for. Something greater than themselves .
While slaving away in the camp , Victor kept alive his faith and love for his wife( who he later found out had been killed ). It was this love that kept his spirits up in Auschwitz.
I am not in a concentration camp but live as a squatter in a small town in South Africa with my family . I have not been able to be gainfully employed , food prices are ballooning and our country seems to be going down the drain . I have hope for better days . I live for God and my family .
I read this book twice each year to remind myself that there have been human beings faced with worse who survived and gave us good literature and philosophies . I read it to remind myself that things will be better and that even if they won’t , let I be a good sport about it , keeping from being miserable and a negative force within my community .
I strive to be a sister, daughter and woman others can look up to and rely on .
