I’d like to think of myself as the queen of black on black. I love the colour black! Almost every weekend, I wear black clothes because of how the colour makes me feel. Black makes feel me fearless, like a rock star. Most importantly, I feel like “I can” with black. It’s my colour! What could possibly go wrong if I’m in black?

There are definitely ways in which you can wear black. But you don’t necessarily want to look like you’re attending a funeral.

So how do you wear black on black?

One way that that you can wear black is through what is known as an LBD aka Little Black Dress. LBD is the kind of outfit that never goes out of style, but the way in which it is worn can. You need to keep it interesting so as to add a personal touch to it. Accessories are a great way to style any outfit especially an LBD, by wearing an oversized black diamond neck piece or a gorgeous colourful scarf. And even a slim belt of any colour – which you can find at most fashion retail outlets – can really impact positively on your outfit.

Another Black on Black style that you can try is the ‘gothic’ trend. Which consists of black skinny jeans or jeggings and black printed tops or torn tops or oversized vest, even a black see through blouse with studs on the collar or just plain black blouse would do. Just make sure you’re wearing a black bra underneath, to cover everything up. Don’t free the nipple, pleeease!

In terms of black accessories stilettos, black platform heels, black high heel ankle boots, and pumps are a great way to turn a plain odd black into a semi-formal outfit.

If you want to tone it down and go casual, (Can’t believe I’m saying this) leggings aren’t so bad after all! Just as long as the fabric is thick – you don’t show your underwear.

One way you can keep leggings interesting is if you get legging with different textures on them. For example, they can be made with cotton and have leather patches on them. So if you wear them with a black shirt, put on a leather jacket to bring out the detail on the leggings, or wear leather legging with a vest and a quarter sleeved black jacket!

To make your outfit fun, add a little bit of jewelry like an oversized ring or metal bangle and a pendant. That flashiness will complete your look.

Moving on to skirts!

I love skirts. If you want to rock a black skirt, consider your shape and body size and get what’s suitable for your body. For instance, if you’re curvy or thick, wear a straight or pencil skirt. Because you can pull up a skirt to your belly, then it’s okay to wear a croptop. You don’t want to show too much skin, just about an inch should be enough.

And if you’re petite, you’ll look great on a bell skirt or a tulle skirt. Skirts are easy to accessorise. Should you want to give it that formal look, just wear a long sleeved round neck croptop and put on a statement neck piece to give it a little bit of sexiness and classiness.

What’s your favourite colour and how does it make you feel when you wear it?
