I’ve just realized something, when it comes to being casual; I’m a boot kind of girl. Hook me up with combat boots then I’m good to go. Just don’t give me Chucks, I’ll throw them right back at your face – just kidding! I just prefer boots and not sneakers. I know you’re waiting for me to talk trash about Chucks or sneakers, I’m not going to, they’re cool and comfortable shoes and everyone pretty much rocks them. I just see a Pansula Dancer when I see someone in chucks and a Hip-hop nikka when I see someone wearing sneakers. That’s just me.

I don’t usually look out for weather when I want to wear my boots. I just wear my boots because I feel like wearing them. And if my outfit allows me to wear my boots, then why not? I have come across people who’ve asked me questions like:

“It’s so hot, why are you wearing boots?”

Yhu kwelilanga, awutshi nasana kwezobhutsi?” meaning Yho! in this heat, aren’t your burning in those boots?

You’re probably thinking, oh well, you wanted to wear your boots anyway; surely your response was “No”.

Well, here’s a thing, walk a mile in my boots and find out!

There are different boots. Gumboots, combat boots, ankle boots, knee high boots. It’s just a matter of how you wear your boots not when you wear your boots. There are different styles in which you can rock your boots and make them look cool without having to worry about the weather.

For instance, gumboots; obviously you wear those on a rainy day, that’s a matter of when you wear your boots. And that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t style them. I find winter to be a fashionista season. This is when we know yah ne! this one has style, qha ke!

Luckily gumboots are no longer just black; there is a variety of prints and designs. So you can show your swagger on in your gumboots. To keep your boots as stylish as possible, visit some fashion retail outlets that offer a range of gumboots with animal prints, flower prints or just plain coloured gumboots, which you can style anyhow you like. You definitely do not have an excuse for not being stylish on a rainy, muddy day.

Combat boots and ankle boots – my favourite! What I really like about these boots is that you can just rock them anytime you want. Combat boots have that rock star feel to them and can be worn with anything – just not formal clothing – semi-formal, yes!

So this is how I would wear my combat boots: torn jeans are currently in style, and I would wear them with an oversized vest or t-shirt. If I want to show a little bit of skin, shorts make a great combination with combat boots! or a summer dresses (Miley Cyrus has done it and she looked epic!).

As for the knee high boots, they are a bit warm. If you want to rock knee high boots in summer, showing a little bit of skin is necessary because you don’t want to sweat and regret it. Wear knee high boots with denim shorts on denim shirt (denim to denim) or a vest or blouse. Blouses are very cool and summerish; very classy and fun to style.

Mini-skirts also do the trick, or a short summer jumpsuit. And if you’re uncomfortable with showing skin, put on opaque stockings… It’s all about the swag and not the weather. With knee high boots, you can go formal, semi-formal and casual. If you want to switch it up and be semi-formal, easy peasy… just put on a jacket!

Tip: Invest in boots because they never go out of fashion so buy quality boots at registered fashion retail shops.

When you wear boots, how do you style them?
