“Did you see that guy? But he isn’t with Natasha in his mind. Guy Natty?” Tariro asks.

Natasha stares at the guy. She is attracted to the guy who sits opposite them. He stares at her and she winks then he looks way. It seems as if the feeling is mutual. She keeps her eyes on him, but he keeps on talking to his friends, avoiding eye contact.

“He is handsome,” she says, smiling.

Natasha keeps staring at him. He is tall and has a muscular body with a thin moustache. He’s talking with his friends, eating his meal. Tariro is busy fiddling with her food while Natasha keeps looking at him. Tariro and Natasha have finished their shift. They are in a restaurant to eat, before going home.

“I see you like him,” Tariro chuckles.

“Yeah I do,” she says and then sips her juice.

Tariro and Natasha work at Gezi Clinic, where they both work as nurses. Tariro is 22 years old and Natasha is 23 years old. They are forever checking on men and always comparing them. They are both single and they are both waiting on love. Natasha likes making the first move but Tariro believes a man must make the first move.

“That one is not your type or you aren’t his type,” Tariro laughs.

“We will see about that,” she answers and stares at him.

The guy stands up. He wears a skinny jean and a maroon shirt. Natasha rushes to his way and he stamps on her feet by mistake. He hadn’t seen that she was coming from the other direction. He was busy looking at his phone. Tariro looks at them as if she is watching a movie.

“Ooooouch,” Natasha says and bends down.

“I am sorry,” he says, trying to help her.

“You don’t even look where you are going,” she hisses.

“I can do anything to show how sorry I am,” he says.

“Take me on a date,” she demands.

“That’s not a problem,” he says.

He takes his hand, puts it in his pocket and gives her a card. “Good-bye, call me anytime.”

Tariro smiles. Natasha wants to scream, then she walks back to the table. She smiles with a little wicked dance. Tariro widens up her eyes and chuckles.

“You are naughty,” she says as Natasha sits down.

“I told you, I will win him,” she smiles.

Natasha looks at the card. It is written Oxford University Scholarship, Alex Muzara. She smiles as if she has won a game.

“His name is Alex, wow handsome looking guy. He is mine,” she says happily.

“We will see that, if you get him in your panties,” says Tariro.

The ladies stand up and walk home. They both stay together because they can share rent. Rooms are expensive in the area but it is close to their work. Natasha can’t erase Alex out of her mind. She talks about having dinner and going out with him. He will ask her out to a romantic dinner and shower her with gifts.

Tariro smiles a fake smile. She wishes she could be like Natasha, who isn’t shy but just makes guys pay attention to her. She’s been like this since high school. People hated her ways with regards to the opposite sex. They walk home and Natasha is still energetic while Tariro walks to her room.

“I am tired today. Let me sleep,” she says sadly.

“You promised we would watch a movie together,” Natasha says confused.

Natasha doesn’t understand what has happened to her friend. She unlocks the door to their two-bedroom apartment with a small kitchen.

“We’re starting early tomorrow. Let’s rest,” says Tariro and she walks into her bedroom.
