Three months passed and she hid her pregnancy under her clothes so no one saw it. Even though she gained weight, everyone didn’t see that she was pregnant. Melody, her mother, visited her one day at the surgery after the last patient had left. Her cravings were becoming worse, she spent the whole day eating, even when she was consulting. She didn’t care how her patients saw her but she hoped they would mind their own business.

She asked Lindsay to buy her coffee and some doughnuts.

“Baby girl, it’s not good what you are doing,” Melody said worriedly.

“What did I do?” Nomatter asked confused.

“When will you forgive your sister?” she asked.

“Mom, did you come here for this?” she said annoyed.

“OK, how are you doing?”

“I am fine,” she answered.

“Your father wants a united family. You have to forgive and forget. When did you even speak to your brothers?” she said sincerely.

“I am very busy lately,” she answered irritated.

Lindsay brought in the coffee and doughnuts and went back to the reception. Melody didn’t take note of Nomatter’s weight, all she saw was that she was getting bigger. Nomatter wore her usual clothes but she wrapped her tummy in a bandage so people wouldn’t see she was pregnant. Only that she was fat. She wore a jacket on top, whether it was cold or not.

She hadn’t decided what to do with her pregnancy yet but she thought adoption was better than abortion. She remembered Lindsay’s words that the baby was a blessing. She could never forgive herself if she aborted.

They ate in silence and promised to visit again. Nomatter smiled when she left, she didn’t want her to sleep over so she could check her vigilantly.

At six months she asked a student doctor to take her place at the surgery. Her patients were unhappy but they settled with that she was studying. Nomatter also avoided her family. She went to stay in Marondera so she could give birth there in private. No one would know about it. Her mother called her and she lied that she was studying. Her family gave her the space she needed. She had already had contacted an adoption agency.

She visited the agency and started to have cold feet. Miss Maka gave her half an hour to think it through. She then agreed she wanted to put the kid up for adopttion.

“Are you sure you want this?” Miss Maka asked.

“Yes,” she answered harshly.

“You don’t look younger Miss. Why don’t you wait till the child is born,” she said calmly.

“I don’t want the baby,” she said.

“OK. It’s fine. So you don’t want to see your baby before you give them away?” she said.

She was unsettled, thinking maybe she was making a wrong decision.

“Make a booking to see a doctor then we’ll see how healthy the baby is. I have a perfect family for the baby,” she said.

They went to see a doctor at a hospital. She checked Nomatter twice using a scan. She had blood tested for HIV and other diseases.

“You have twins,” he said.

“What?”

“Oh wow! Then I have to look for another family,” Miss Maka said when Nomatter told her.

“I want them to have one parent,” Nomatter demanded.

Miss Maka nodded quietly. Nomatter couldn’t believe she was carrying two baby boys in her belly. She sent a message to Lindsay.

Wow. What are you going to do with them? Don’t give them up.

I am not sure anymore.

Don’t give them up. You will regret it. God gives you only once. Embrace your blessings!

“Miss Maka, I can’t give my babies up,” she said in the office of the Agency.

“Having cold feet? It’s normal. That’s why I said wait till they are born, but I have already found a family for them, they are very happy,” she said happily.

“OK.” she said.

“Do you want to know them?” she asked anxiously.

“No, but keep a record of their name and contact details,” she answered worriedly.

“OK, if it’s what you want!”

After her talk with Miss Maka, she left and went to her home. She felt better and knew her decision was right. When she knew about the twins, she didn’t want to give them up. What will her family say? Especially if they knew she had been impregnate by a married man who didn’t care about her anymore.

She had told them that Abraham wanted to marry her and when it didn’t happen, she avoided her family. She had been too embarrassed with what happened between her sister and Abraham, but only Melody knew the story.

The three months left came soon. She gave birth to a boy and a girl. The doctor had said they were boys but still she still didn’t want the babies. She refused to see their faces and she declined holding them. Miss Maka and a nurse took them away.
