The sun crept through the curtains,
I felt its warm touch gently pull me to reality.
I opened my eyes.
With her still in my arms, for a moment
I was convinced I was still dreaming.
I watched the sun dance
on her delicate golden skin.
I wished she were smiling;
I am addicted to her smile.
Her teeth are like white pearls,
they glow in the light.
I gently removed her arm
that she had lain across my chest.
I did not have the courage to wake her,
she seemed peaceful.
I got up and dragged my half-asleep body
to the kitchen to get something to drink.
As I stared at the empty glass in my hand,
I realized something.
I had her dream; I saw the
small one-bedroom apartment
filled with laughter and happiness.
I felt the unconditional and
pure love she always spoke about.
She sat next to me in her wedding gown,
with her head on my shoulder,
as we gazed at the sunset.
I rushed to wake her and tell her, I understood.
I understood her dream.
She smiled as at the sight of my face;
my heart jumped a bit.
I looked her in the eyes and said,
β€œLet me be that old elephant necklace of yours,
I want to be unique and irreplaceable to you.”
