A couple of years ago when I completed my junior secondary school I had an opportunity to attend senior secondary school. Unfortunately, after some months into school I failed to pay my school fees as I had no funds and sponsor. The only option was for me to drop out of school.

I started looking for different ways to raise the school fees so I started doing some piece work around town. As part of maintaining my school place and complete school, I would go and study in different libraries in Usisya. I studied hard on my own and worked hard to raise money to pay for exams.

I was missing so much on the activities at school such as academic trips and extra-curricular activities. I could not even access books from the school library as my fees were not paid in full. This was a hard blow, especially that I was just a young person and all I needed was to go to school in peace. Despite the hostile circumstances around me I had a vision which was driving me not to give up.

An opportunity came when I met John. His father had a studio labelled Talented Family Records in town and he invited me to his home for a supper and I accepted. After the supper, he opened his laptop and I made some beats. He was surprised with this because he had never seen me doing it. To master beats making I enrolled for classes at Techno Brains where I studied music production. Techno Brains helped me to have more skills on music production and I could practice on John’s computer.

As time passed I could make beats of different genres such as hip-hop, dancehall, reggae and R&B. One day I made a hip-hop beat and John nicknamed himself as JD and composed a song, which gained him fame. He later introduced me to his father and told him about my talents. He called me to his house where he employed me at his studio after doing an interview.

After working for some months he gave me a laptop which I could use for beats making. On personal reasons, I used the laptop for my studies, using the Wi-Fi network available at his house which helped me to stop going around to libraries. The information gathered, with the help of the laptop, was enough for me to accumulate good grades during my final national exams.

Now I have been selected to a public university to do computer sciences. I still use the laptop today. The laptop acted as a success for my today and future education.

For the youth struggling in the same lane of fees scarcity and other challenges, be encouraged to find ways around your problems. Do not quit school, work hard for the dreams around you.
