Naledi confided in Malum’dimples about everything and so did he to her. They often chat online and went to church together while Naledi’s mom cooked a Sunday meal. This is where Naledi found out that Lerato’s mom was in 8th grade when she had her and Sukela was her sugar- daddy, which is where he got his name. “Sukela wanted to marry Lerato’s mom” said Dimples, “but the father in law accused us of witchcraft which led to a rivalry between the two families.” This is also the reason why Lerato’s maternal family stay so far away.
Dimples was old but cool, he loved his niece dearly. He always made sure to give her complements when she cooked, cleaned, passed a test or dressed-up for an event. They often planned their outfits together and he always asked her which tie to wear or which shoes matched the outfit. This however was followed by mockery from Shukela who always had awful things to say about Naledi, her mom and dad. ” Nkosi was weak, he died too easily” says Shukela whenever he’s had too much to drink. “He was never a man, I’m a better man than he could ever be… you should try me sometime” He would say to Naledi’s mom before beating the heaven out of her. ( I don’t want to say Hell, she’s a nice lady)
Naledi would run to Dimples who would comfort her in situations like these. And Dimples would protect her by not letting Shukela hit her too. Lihle feared Shukela and agreed to whatever he said, while Sgonondo was never usually around. He spent most of his time in prison and when he was out, he did his absolute best to go back inside again. He was also feared because he never repeated himself, he always had a gun with him and claimed that he was the “protector” of the family.
Basically Nkosi is the weakling, Shukela is the leader, Lihle is the skivvy, Lethu is the gangster protector and Dimples is the…uhm saint or hero ( I’m not quite sure about the friendly uncle).
