” I told you to stop going out at night,you don’t listen . You are a big girl right?”she shouted furiously. She didn’t want to agree that her mother had always warned her to the risks.
Chichi had told Glenda after supper about what she had seen on that terrific night . She told her everything that Patie and her supervisor had told her.She thought it was the best but her mother was dumbfounded that made her keep on blaming her for going out at night. She looked through the window.It was a dark night again,she was hoping to see another occurance of a UFO. Her eyes darted left and right like the eyes of a owl. She breathed fasted,small distressed breath.
” Mama the point if you see a unknown creature run ,Okay?!” she warned her and avoid having emotions. The thought of her her own family being taken away haunted her.
Glenda shook her head slightly with a worried look. At least she was calm because Chichi was worried about her blood pressure.
” Other people won’t listen to this advice. They want to explore not knowing the dangers of it,” she spoke and sighed ,shooking her her head softly.
Chichi seemed to be observant to a light that appeared from no way. The sky had been moonless with few stars . She thought it was a flashlight but the light was big.
” Close the curtains, I ‘ m going to bed. Lock the door ! ” Glenda ordered, pointing the door with her frail finger and noticed that Chichi seemed to be taken from what she seeing through the window. She joined her and her mouth was wide open in shock. Both stare in disbelief.
The light object gew bright and zoomed through the sky. A long trial was behind and it zoomed in the darkness. She felt like stones were on her throat. She discovered when she was entering the gate that was developing flu. She idn’t wear jersey at night and sleep under a sheet even during the cold night.
” Is that a shooting star? Make a wish !” he mother nudged her back with her elbow.
” Mama,that not a shooting star,” a muttered and cleared her throat.
The light object fly long time than a shooting star and it looked different from man made flying objects. Her mother closed the curtain harshly because she knew this was something to do with aliens.
” Mama,I want …,” she got interrupted .
” Baby girl,it’s not safe . what if they already have seen us?” she spoke considering options. Chichi was still curiously and peeked through the curtain. The light object had disappeared. She closed the curtain properly and took a deep breath. She could see fear in her mother eyes but she was trying to be ignorant or strong,
” Okay ,let’s go watch the ‘Family Feuds’,her mother pulled her by hand to the living room.
Her mother switched the TV and sat on the sofa ,while Chichi heaved on the sofa.
” Don’t break my sofa. No one will buy me a new one,” she smirked and laughed. The news reporter appeared on the screen and Chichi tried to change it to no success.
” There is a monolith found in South Africa . Its pristine mirror clad monolith. It was a magnificent structure,gleaming in the sun. A dozen of swimmer found it today at the Richard Bay,” a voice of a new reporter announced.
Glenda was avoiding stress and she changed the channel to Family Feuds and Chichi grabbed it quickly and switched it back to the news. Glenda folded her arms irritated,she didn’t care about news and she didn’t want to come in terma with the fat that aliens existed.
” Can we watch Zulu news”
” These monolith are found all over the world. The first appeared in Utah which a young man claimed he had to do wit this monolith until they appeared all over the earth. The monolith remains mystery but scientists believe its the first encounter with aliens,” the news reporter added.
Chichi ‘s stomach clutched tightly as if she had diarrhea and wandered around aimlessly. She hadn’t ate since her lunch break. She took a deep breath as fear took over her . Suddenly she had lost interest to entertaining herself. What would become of the world? It sat on her mind with no answers
” I will eat and go to sleep,” she murmured and rushed to her bed.
Her mother thought she was heading to the kitchen but she dropped her jaw when she saw heading to her room. She raised her hands ,puzzled. She didn’t want to think deeply much of aliens,she did everything to forget about the topic.
” Chichi please don’t forget lock the doors,” her mother grumbled loudly ,putting her feet on the sofa. She turned the station to her favorite show.
Chichi blantly ignored what Glenda had reminded her. All she wanted was to sleep,she was terrified and thought it was a bizaree dream she needed to wake up from.
” What is the world becoming?” she muttered and looked up the ceiling.
Suddenly she fell deep in sleep and dream the first night when she saw the UFO dropping in Masila’ s yard. She dreamt of possibilities that the aliens changed everyone on earth. She had beads of sweat on her face and tossed up and down. She breathed heavily as if she was working hard in the dream.
” It can’t happen…. Something must be done,” she whispered to herself.
There was a loud thud nearby. It was as if a big stone fell on her yard. She rushed out ,panting as if she was being chased by a vicious dog.
