Let us eat

Around this table, let’s seat

Black or white, it don’t matter

Or does it hold a little value

In this table carved by my ancestors

With our blood dripping from their backs

Pained at the thought of living in a foreign land ‘temporarily.’

Let us eat these fruits on this table

Harvested by my great grandmother

In conditions, unbearable not even a pig would rejoice to see

Let us speak as civilised people, you’d say!

And I wonder, who are civilised people?

Are those that choose to forget the injustices of the past

Injustices seem too civilised

Instead, I’d say cruelty!

And is it even left in the past

Even at this table you’d stab me in the back

Your animal instincts could awaken from sleep

And I could be like my great grandfather carving tables

Like my great-grandmother in the fields

Like my mother in the kitchens

All in a flick of an eye

Let us stop eating!

I know you remember all that you did

It’s carved into your conscience

That’s even if you possess one

Let us speak of when you are going to return

Our stolen possessions.

Land the one I vividly remember playing at

YES! your eyes open wide

You remember!

Bring it back. We need it now!

To accommodate this big family, I have

We don’t fit in, in the shack you gave us

It’s like you are pushing us into a tin

Like we are fish or something

I know you said you were borrowing it,

But it’s been so long, nearly a thousand years now

We need it too!

YOU NEED TO BRING IT BACK!!
