I once loved a man
When I was younger
He said he loved me
He would stroke my cheeks
Run his fingers through my hair
Gaze deeply into my eyes
I would get lost in his eyes
He would whisper in my ear softly
And say, “My beautiful one.”
And he would caress every inch
Of my body with his fingers
And I would feel my temperature rise
My love for him growing with every touch
He would pull me close to his face
And kiss me
I would kiss him back
Then he would mutter under his breath
“I promise to love you till death do us part,
but even death cannot separate us.”
I would blush with blood rushing through
my vein
Unable to breathe
Then he would leave
We would say our goodbyes
He would say, “I love you. I will see you
again tomorrow.”
I would smile and not say anything.
The following day
I would receive a call
That would rock my world
Saying that he was no more
He never made it home
My beloved
And I never said I loved him too.
