BEFORE SCIENCE I WAS NOT SCARED

Before Mama turned out the light

She would kiss us and say

‘’Do not be scared of night my darling ‘’

It’s as nice as a day .The moon God’s

Own soccer ball. Forgotten after play

The stars are peeping babies. Who will all

Be born one day. The night is like a soft

Blanket to cover up our heads and dreams

Are waiting in the clouds to visit us in

Bed. ’The darkness tip-toed in and shut the

Door against the light but really I was not afraid

I was not scared at night

‘’Not true ‘my brother whispered, while we lay

Warm in our bed ‘’moon monsters come when we’re

Asleep and eat us up ‘’ he said

‘’The clouds are human hides up there –all spread

Out wide to dry and when the sun sets red at

Night, that’s blood painting the sky’’

I thrilled and putted the blankets high to hide

My smile from sight for really I was not afraid

I was not scared at night

At school in science they put us right. We learned

Astro –no-my we learned that satellites were used in meteor-o-logy. ’’Where is this place

Called space? ’We asked. ’Where does it start

And stop?’’ It seems space has no start no end no

Bottom and no top I dread to think of space out there

No end no air no light and now I really am afraid

I am dead scared at night
