Drop the book

Drop the act

Stop relying on quotes from demonised novels to give you inspiration

Why are you reading that book for 45th time?

I wanted a smart child

Not a bookworm who feeds off of information from unknown contemporaries

Who the hell is Dostoevsky and Tolstoy?

Why are you inspired by the dead?

You sit

And you read while others take the stand and lead

You say you want to leave a mark? How, when all your thinking is dark

You tell yourself that you’re different

Different from social media queen bees

As if you don’t wear the personalities of book characters on your sleeve

You attain and you gain the values of people you read about

Tell me how does it feel to not be original?

To soak up the beliefs of everyone else

To think like the depressed, the broken, the dead

You tell yourself you’re original

Then examine your beliefs and notice how each and every thought you think

Is based off every book you read

So I’m telling you to drop that book

Survival doesn’t come from being book smart

In the real world, a sword is actually mightier than a pen

Because you can not slay your nightmare of being average when your hands are covered in ink

Everything you write, sing or do has been done before

So you have no right to call yourself original

So drop that book and come eat your dinner
