Well you know I’m always here to help you make things clearer. So don’t panic, no need to stress anymore. Take a deep breath and calm down. These tips may help you and alleviate your stress. I’m sure you don’t wanna have a panic attack or end up having a heart attack because you didn’t study and you were brave enough to show up to that exam or test room without studying. Trust me I did that many times in high school and I failed miserably.
You know that time when they say “You may start writing.” and your heart beat louder than your silence because you know very well that you didn’t study or rather you did but not enough. Or you were cross-nighting and now you have a blackout. Terrible, right? I know. I, Azola Nonkosi did that and I wished the earth swallowed me from that very moment. I knew that I had a big math exam coming up and I kept procrastinating. I watched everyone busy writing and doing calculations knowing their business while I sat there writing absolutely nothing.
Last minutes always have consequences. However, you can do better than me and go get those marks because that distinction is calling your name. You can try your all. I know you will. I believe in you.
- Be organised: Identify your stressors and try to find solutions. Note down how many days you are left with and how many tests or exams you are going to write.
- Create a space for your studies: avoid getting distracted. If your phone is going to distract you best you keep it somewhere far and safe away from your study space. Get a table or desk and a chair and make sure that you are comfortable. Get everything you need. Your books, study guides, questions papers, stationery, etc.
- Study and practice: You can use visual aids and flow charts to help you in your studying. Practice makes perfect. Read, write, read and write again. You can ask someone to ask you questions. Practice past papers. Create mini tests to test your understanding.
- Take breaks: you can take breaks after you wrote a self-test. This will help you to relax and not bombard your mind with a lot of information at once. You can watch TV for 30 minutes or eats a snack as a reward.
- Take enough sleep: our brains are designed to learn but our bodies have to rest. This will benefit you because you will feel fresh as ever the next morning. Sleep for eight hours
