Twitter, now known as X since 2023, after Elon Musk’s acquisition is an American social media and social networking service owned by the American technology company X Corp., the replacement of Twitter Inc.

Twitter requires registration. Anyone who is 13 and above can join it. It lets registered users share short messages called tweets, follow others for updates, engage in conversations, and stay informed about various topics through real-time updates.

But do you know Twitter Contains Pornography?

I started signing up on Twitter when I was 13 years old in 2018, when I discovered Twitter is zero-rated on the MTN network. That time, I was little. I didn’t know what I was doing, joining Twitter, unaware it has pornography. When I started noticing there was pornography there, I started watching it until I got addicted to it.

Adult Content Creators Are Manipulating People On Twitter

Nothing is disgusting like adult content creators, I don’t like them at all. I despise them. Adult content creators can do anything to get people to watch or support their harmful content, pornographic work. Sometimes, they can comment on your profile to promote their work so that you, your followers, and everyone visiting your profile can support their sinful work, even if you don’t watch pornography. This is like compulsion, and it’s so sad.

Twitter is doing Nothing

There’s a bit of a loophole in Twitter’s policy. Twitter said Pornography is allowed, but the person sharing it must mark the account as sensitive, which then prompts a warning message to users who must acknowledge whether they want to see that content. If they do not do that, they will be banned. Most users who share pornography do not mark their accounts as sensitive, but they are not banned.

Pornography is harmful, addictive, It damages the brain, promotes violence against women, and distorts reality. It should not be allowed on Twitter. I know Twitter is a freedom of speech platform, but freedom of speech by sharing pornography? No! This isn’t about freedom of speech; it’s about exploitation.

Strategies To Address And Minimising Explicit Content Challenges On Twitter

The least Twitter does is allow users to filter sensitive content, but users can still access and see sensitive content even if the filter is turned on.

If you are a Twitter user, the following strategies will help you minimise exposure to sensitive content such as pornography and other forms of content.

1. Access your Twitter account on a desktop; click “More” on the mobile app, tap your profile icon.

2. Choose “Settings and Support,” then “Settings and privacy.”

3. Navigate to “Privacy and Safety,” followed by “Content you see.”

4. Toggle the box for “Display media that may contain sensitive content” – uncheck it to avoid seeing explicit contents.

How To Change Twitter Search Settings

If you are searching and do not want to see sensitive content, you can use the search filter strategies. The search filter does not completely hide explicit content when you are searching. What it does it only minimise them. It hides explicit content accounts, videos, photos, and links, but when you search for “Porn,” you can still see porn videos.

Use the following strategies to hide sensitive content when you are searching.

1. Log in on desktop; click “More.” On the app, tap your profile icon.

2. Navigate to “Settings and Support,” then “Settings and privacy.”

3. Choose “Content you see,” then “Search settings.”

4. Toggle the box for “Hide sensitive content.” Check to exclude it from search results or uncheck to view it.

By disabling the display of sensitive media, you create a safer browsing environment. For instance, if you follow accounts sharing news or educational content, this ensures that your feed remains focused on informative posts without the distraction of explicit material, including pornography.
