It has been two months since Kate met with Tony at the park. After her friends begged her not to harm him, she listened to them. She is no longer angry but she has a few questions that she would like to ask Tony so that she can have closure and find peace.

She sends Tony a message.

Kate: Hi Tony, can we please meet at the park I want to talk to you. I have few questions that I would like to ask you?

She exhales and waits for him to reply.

Tony: Hi Kate, it is okay we can meet as long as you can promise not to kill me because the last time we met I was running for my dear life…

Kate: Don’t worry I promise I won’t harm you.

Tony: Fine let’s meet in two hours.

Kate: Ok thanks.

Kate is sitting on a green bench waiting for Tony. He arrives in his black BMW X5. The front door opens and he gets out. He hasn’t aged a bit since they broke up originally: he’s still tall, dark and a hunk. He’s wearing blue jeans with a sky blue T-shirt and white All Star sneakers. He walks straight to where Kate is sitting.

“Hi Kate.” He joins her on the bench.

“Hi Tony.” She looks at him but Tony looks down. They stay silent. After a moment, Kate speaks.

“Why did you break off our engagement and leave me like that? What did I do for you to break my heart like this?” Kate looks down with teary eyes.

“I am so sorry, please forgive me, you did nothing wrong.” He looks down in shame.

“Then why did you leave me? You didn’t love me any more so you eloped with another woman overseas and broke up with me via a text message?” Tears roll down her cheeks.

Tony holds her chin, turns her face to face his, and he looks deep into her eyes.

“I have never ever stopped loving you to this very day. I left because I was young, foolish, childish and irresponsible.” He speaks with tears in his eyes.

“You really broke my heart and made me a laughing stock.” Kate covers her face with her hands and sobs.

“I know and I regret it.” He hugs her and they both cry.

After a while, Kate breaks out of the hug and wipes her tears with the backs of her hands.

“Where is the woman that you eloped with? Probably you two are married now with children?” She looks down and exhales, not sure if she wants to hear the answer.

“No, she left me and I don’t have kids.” He takes a deep breath.

“What! Why did she leave you?” She looks him in the eyes.

“She found someone better, a Russian mafia guy with plenty of money and businesses.” He chuckles.

“Wow! I am so sorry.”

“It’s OK, let’s just call it karma, and by the way, it’s old news.” He flashes her a smile.

“How long have you been back in South Africa?”

“Well, about five years now.” He shies away from her.

“What!” She frowns.

“I know what you’re thinking, like, why I didn’t come find you to ask for forgiveness? The truth is I wanted to but I was afraid and I didn’t know where to begin.”

“It’s fine, I get it.” She gives him a shrug.

“But the dating app has given me the chance to redeem myself and to ask for forgiveness.” He bursts out laughing.

“I guess so.” She joins him in laughter.

“I am really grateful for this moment and thank God for it, now I can sleep soundly at night.” He stares at her and smiles, showing off his dimples.

“Likewise I have found the closure that I was looking for.” She returns the smile.

“I would like us to start afresh, on a clean slate, or even be friends, if you don’t mind.”

“I don’t know. I don’t want you to break my heart again.” She shakes her head.

“I promise I won’t break your heart, if I do so, please kill me.” He places his hands on his chest and looks at her.

“OK, it’s a deal.” She looks at him and gives her hand for a handshake.

“Deal.”

They shake hands, laughing.
