Animals are dirty and disgusting. They are full of fleas and lice and they bite.

Oh, for goodness’ sake. That doesn’t mean they deserve to be KILLED.

That was the last post, submitted just four minutes earlier.

Jamie held her breath as she read the second-last post. It was him.

Foully Wooing Won. He was back, and he wanted her to know it.

She reminded herself that he had no way of knowing that she knew who he was. He couldn’t possibly be aware that Tom had trawled through her posts to identify him. Tom had not clicked on his screen name in case he had a system in place to notify him if anyone viewed his profile.

This was just one of his fishing expeditions. She had responded to him before, but always in an offhand manner. His posts had never triggered warning bells. Probably, she admitted, because she was used to the trolls who tried to engage her when she went online. It took a very special crazy to stand out from the rest.

What did he want from her? Did he like the feeling of hiding in plain sight? Did it make him feel clever to flaunt himself under her nose? If that was the case, it was best if she continued to seem un aware of him.

But he was trying to draw her out, wasn’t he? His posts were always provocative, as though he were looking for a reaction. Maybe it was time to give him one.

She started to type, reminding herself she could always delete it before posting.

@ Cyril – don’t stress. Tom isn’t the one behind this, I promise you.

@ Foully Wooing Won – whatever you may think of animals, this dog was someone’s personal property.

@ Gugz – I’m worried too.

She read the post over and over. There was no harm in it that she could see. She wasn’t singling him out. She was simply replying to several posts at once, as she often did. There was nothing aggressive in what she’d written – nothing to indicate she was baiting him. The odd thing to do would be to ignore him. He would think she was doing it on purpose.

Jamie hit “post” before she could change her mind.
