Have you heard of the saying “Anie brand”? Well, anie brand is translated as “On fire.”

According to Cape Flats Dictionary anie brand is, “said of someone who is very good with something.”

However, anie brand can literally mean that something is on fire, but you will naturally know in which context to use it!

Anie brand is basically when someone tells you, “You’re on fire!” but it’s the Afrikaans version. It is usually said with excitement and the feeling of being impressed or proud.

Example scenarios:

“Hy is anie brand!” (He is on fire!) – Could be said when someone is great at the boardgame 30 Seconds, for instance.

“Jy is anie brand” (You are on fire) – Could be said to you since you’re doing such a good job at work, delivering great results.

The are many more scenarios that you can use for anie brand; play around, see what you can come up with. I hope you enjoyed this week’s word of the week, and that you even perhaps use anie brand in your everyday life.
