Thembelani Zondo, known affectionately as Mr Technology, is a remarkable self-taught robotics inventor who is making waves with his innovative creations. Despite facing challenges, such as leaving school in grade 11, Thembelani’s God-given talent and unwavering determination have propelled him forward. Located in KZN Bergville, Woodford, he dreams of becoming a qualified engineer and establishing a company that will revolutionise the world through groundbreaking innovations while providing job opportunities for the youth.

His extraordinary talent and anything is possible mindset empower him to tackle ambitious projects.  Thembelani’s creations aim to address real-world challenges, such as assisting the disabled.  “With the robotic arm I created, I hope to one day create so it can lift heavy objects at the will of those with cartilage issues making their lives easier.”

One of Thembelani’s projects that is making waves is his homemade car. Thembelani built his own car that is modelled after his dream car, the Bugatti Shark.

Thembelani acknowledges that his journey is not without its challenges. With limited financial resources, he faces obstacles in procuring the necessary materials for his inventions. “Sometimes I used to go and find piece jobs so that I can buy materials, but at this level I’m using small materials like wires that created that hand; because if I move to another level, money will be needed so it will be hard.”  He aspires to reach higher levels of complexity that require a greater financial investment.

However, the unwavering support of his parents and friends sustains him during difficult times, encouraging him to persevere and keep striving for greatness. “The support I received comes from my parents – they were believing in me. Sometimes I feel like quitting and they will say, “No don’t do that you can make it.’” Thembelani also credits his friends’ belief in him as a source of fuel to keep going. Though the car moves well he wishes more for it, it is moving with a gearbox and electric motor, Thembelani aims to build his own engine for the car.

Thembelani’s story serves as a testament to the power of self-belief, talent and perseverance. He offers words of wisdom to others who want to start anything, “They must believe in themselves, everything is possible if you put effort to it, and they must never take eyes off the target they will win and pray.”
