A metrosexual man is described as a guy who is meticulous about his grooming and appearance, typically spending a significant amount of time and money on shopping as part of this. To him, looking good and taking care of himself is one on the most important things of his day. He will spend a significant amount of time in the mirror, not because he is narcissistic, he is just very conscious of the way others will perceive him and will go the extra mile to ensure that he looks perfect. So let’s get started with my list of things that I think is okay for guys/metrosexuals to do:

Getting your eyebrows done use to be a girl thing to do but more and more guys are doing it because who wants to walk in the road with thick eyebrows looking like a crown-of-thorns affected by a natural disaster. So shaping your eyebrows could be something that everyone does, whether it be tweezing, waxing or threading, you need to put in a little effort to make your eyebrows nicer. I feel that I need to point out that shaving your eyebrows and using eye pencil to draw emoticons is never an option, it is really the most unattractive thing in the world that does not work on girls and it is definitely not going to work on guys, so please stay away….

There is nothing wrong with relaxing and flat-ironing your hair, many guys do it. In the twenty-first century, the metrosexual guy is very hair conscious and will spend hours on making sure that his hair looks good and gets the right treatment and products needed for his hair to be healthy. A lot of money gets spent on hair and to some of us it is more important than medicine, hence you will always see us with a comb and brush in our cars or bags.

Hygiene is really important to a metrosexual guy, we spend a lot of time washing, using the most expensive, organic products because we treat our bodies like the temple it is. Putting on a face mask for our skin to be healthy is not an issue, your partner will never complain about waking up to that beautiful, soft-skin shiny face in the morning having no issues with pimples, blackheads or the skin under your chin looking like a granadilla ice cream lolly, there are a lot of products to help with that so you don’t need to look like the mascot for granadilla ice cream.

Let’s speak about the manicure, having clean nails and soft hands is really beneficial. I am not sure who enjoys being touched by a guy with dirty nails and hard hands, even Lucious Lyon in Empire had a manicure in one of the episodes. Can you imagine trying to act all romantic, looking at your partner’s nails and in the back of your mind being scared of getting poisoned…. A metrosexual man has at least one bottle of lotion in his office desk drawer next to our “work-perfume” and an extra toothbrush and hair gel. Smelling good comes naturally to us: I was in the train one day and this guy had his arms up holding on the rail, and an old lady right next to him said one of the funniest things I ever heard: “Buti, lift down.” Now I know all of us reading this know why she said what she said, and, as a metrosexual guy, you skip that lesson.

Looking good is really important to the metrosexual man, we spend a significant amount of time either going to the gym or for a daily walk or run. Most of us have a specific diet plan that we follow and drink as much water as we possibly can. When it comes to fashion we are up to date with what is hot and what is not, even if we can’t afford it. We can wear flowers and get away with it, bright colours on a winters day – we make it work. We are very concerned about people’s opinion, but not enough to change for them, so it does not matter what we wear, we make the outfit look good. You will never see us dressed like a soccer coach, please everyone: tracksuits are for the tracks! Unless you work at a sports stadium, you are not allowed to wear a tracksuit to work.

Being a metrosexual guy takes a lot of effort and can be very expensive, but you only live once and it is really important for us to make every day count, hence we will suffer for beauty. Sometimes all of this can seem like too much effort or too painful, but you want that moment where someone is proud to show you off.
