As some of you may know I am a bit of a makeup addict and love experimenting with it and trying new looks. The thing I love about makeup is that you can really express yourself with it. If you are still a beginner and want to read a tutorial that will help you with the basics of makeup give, Phoebe’s Make up tutorial for beginners.

My go to look usually has lots of warm browns, peaches and golds but today I thought I would do something different. In this blog I will explain how to do a silver and dark grey smokey-eye with a wing. This is quite a dramatic look and can be worn when going out with your friends.

1. The thing that makes applying the easiest is to have good, clean and moisturised skin. So make sure that you have cleaned your face, used a toner and then apply moisturiser to your skin before you put on any makeup.

2. I like to start out with my foundation. I pump a bit of foundation onto the back of my hand and dot it all over my face. I then take my big foundation brush (you can also use your hands) and buff the foundation all over my face into my skin. Make sure there are no patches or streaks and that everything looks even.

3. If I have any blemishes or pimples on my face, I like to cover those with some concealer. I also put some under my eyes to try and attempt to cover up the dark circles under my eyes because I always look so tired. Once you have made sure everything is concealed and you have a flawless base to work on, you are ready for the next step.

4. I then like to move onto my eyes. On a big, fluffy blending brush I like to apply a light brown or peach colour all over my lid and above my crease – this will act as a transition colour so that everything looks blended and we don’t have any harsh lines in our eyeshadow that we don’t want.

5. Once that is blended in I like to take a medium to dark brown and blend that into the crease, focusing on the outer portion of the eye.

6. When you think that is blended in enough, take a dark grey or blue eyeshadow on a smaller blending brush and place that in the outer corner of the eye – blending it into the lash line and outer crease. Bring that colour down to your bottom lash line and on a pencil brush place it onto your lower lash line. If you are worried about looking too much like you have a black eye you have a few choices. You can skip this step completely, use a lighter colour like a brown or if you are more comfortable with pencil eyeliners you could use a black (or any colour of your choice) in your waterline.

7. If you are happy with your look so far then we are ready to move onto the liquid eyeliner. Personally this is my favourite step but I also think it is the hardest. If you don’t feel comfortable with this you can also skip this step and either leave the eyelook as it is or smudge some eyeliner on your top lash line. I’ve found the easiest way to do this is to just remain calm but there are lots of different tips and tricks that you can look up. I start by drawing a thin line along my upper lash line. Towards the outer edge of my eye I start to thicken the line. I then draw a small line pointing up towards my eyebrow. I then start drawing another line that starts at the end of that last line and goes back towards the upper lash line. This essentially makes a triangular shape. I fill that in with the eyeliner. Now the actual hard part comes when you have to try and get your other eye to the be the same shape.

8. Once I am happy with my liquid liner, I like to add a bright white or silver to the inner corner of my eye and a tiny bit to my brow bone.

9. If you have had any fallout or need to clean up your eyeliner a bit, you can add a little bit more concealer to around your eye area.

10. The next thing I do is powder my face – this sets the foundation and concealer so that it lasts all day. Putting a little bit of powder on also helps to stop my skin from getting too oily. I focus my podwer mainly on my t-zone area (forehead, nose and chin) as that is where I tend to get the most oily and where my makeup seems to disappear.

11. I love bold eyebrows and feel very lucky to have such dark eyebrows naturally but I like to just touch them up a little bit. To do this I take a dark brown, almost black eyebrow gel and brush that through my eyebrow hairs to make sure that they stay in place all day.

12. Next I like to add lots and lots of mascara to both my top and bottom eyelashes. I think there is no such thing as too much mascara!

13. The last thing I like to do is add some colour to my face. I like to take some bronzer on an angled fluffy brush and lightly buff this into the area where my cheekbones are – suck your cheeks in – it is where the hollows in your face are. Then using the same brush I take a little bit of blush and put this on the apples of my cheeks. If you struggle to find your apples just smile and they are the round parts on your cheeks. If I’m feeling fancy I like to add a little bit of highlighter (a light sparkly powder – not the stationary!) onto the tops of my cheek bones.

14. And last but not least I’m going to add a lippie, this look will go with most lip colours but I think I am going to pair it with a browny-mauve colour.

Tips and tricks:
• Earbuds are your bestfriend – if you make a mistake wait for it to dry and then wipe it away with an earbud.
• Concealer can be used to cover up any fallout or mistakes you make around the eyes.

If you try this look out on yourself or a friend please send us a picture so that we can see – we would all really love to see your recreations of this look.
