I recently moved to a township called Langa aka ‘Skom’. It came as a surprise to me seeing young ladies dress all hip and stylish on weekends after long weekdays of school. I always assumed people in Langa were very basic in terms of style and fashion, meaning that a girl would wear a pair of pumps, jeans and a T and she’s good to go. As for boys, they simply didn’t care about all that stuff.

Shame on me for being judgmental!

OK, so there are also disadvantages to this thing. Not everyone you come across on these streets will rock the same outfit like a fashionista. I’ve witnessed some awfully blinding ‘fashion statements’. For example: I curse the day leggings were born.

Ladies, we all come in different shapes and sizes and I’m so thrilled that you’re all comfortable in your own skins. That is just great but, nobody, I mean nobody, wants to see a plump woman in leggings (especially white leggings) and a crop top. Stop this! No-one wants to see your cellulite and definitely not your stretch marks. So if you know you’re comfortable in your own skin and like to be comfortable in the clothes you wear and have this problem, stop!

Not to be mean or anything, but crop tops were made for skinny and petite girls. I know some of you want to blend in but there are ways to flourish in this game of fashion without making an absolutely disastrous fashion statement. Stick with me and I hope I will change your life.

I came across a tweet earlier. It was more like a question which went like: “I-uniform ya diferb ?” And someone replied with “crop tops and leggings”. Y’all know what that means and it’s nasty and I know you do not want to be associated with the term.

I’ll let you in on what men really think about leggings and why exactly they want you to wear such clothes. They want to see right through you. I feel so hurt on behalf of all the ladies that think crop tops and leggings are the bomb dot com.

They’re not, so quit it!

What’s your ‘go to’ outfit?
