On her way back home she was shaking and wanted to go back and support Mangi’s family. But she knew how Mangi’s family felt about homosexual people and they blamed Luntu for Mangi’s sexuality.

She couldn’t wait to see what was in the letter so she rushed home fast. Finally when she got there her mom was unpacking the groceries, as Luntu took a sit.

“Hey baby,”

“You came back so early,” replied Luntu.

“You OK? Something to drink?” asked Pet.

“No I’m cool. Let me just take a nap,”

“Baby, talk to me. What is it?” Petunia went to sit next to her kid.

“Why was I even born? The only…” asked Luntu angrily

“No! I’ll not let you do this to yourself. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. I couldn’t ask for more…Luntu talk to me, please.” begged Petunia. Then Luntu started crying.

“Shh it’s OK. I understand baby, you’ll get through this. We’ll get through this, together. Luntu couldn’t look at her mom. She didn’t want her mother to feel the pain that she was feeling but it was too late because Petunia was already in tears.

“I’m sorry for being an idiot…I…”

“Baby you’re not an idiot OK? We all make mistakes. Look at me, nobody is perfect,” said Pet as there was someone opening the door. It was Wanda and his granny, Gogo Penny, and girlfriend Liza.

“Hello, please come on inside. How’re you Gogo?” asked Petunia as she hugged granny.

“I’m fine. How are things here?” Gogo Penny went and sat next to Luntu and hugged her, “Oh my child. Wanda told me everything. I’ve got no words child. How do you do?” asked granny.

“Im OK Gogo, thanks. Hey Liza,” she said

“Noluntu. I’m sorry for what you’re going through,” said Liza

“OK…” said Luntu who was tired of people feeling sorry for her. In fact she hated it. She even tried to hide it but Wanda and Petunia could see right through her.

“Ma Petty, do you need any help?” Wanda asked Petunia who was in the kitchen.

“It seems like I’ve ran out of sugar. Could you go and buy me some?”

“Of course. Luntu, wanna accompany me, just to get some air you know?” then Wanda winked at her.

“Of course, let’s,” Liza didn’t feel comfortable because she knew that Wanda was nuts about Luntu. But she didn’t want to give him any reason for him to leave her for Luntu.

“Something’s bothering you. So out with it,” said Wanda to Luntu as they were on their way to the spaza shop. Luntu pretended not to know what Wanda was on about

“Huh? What?” she asked

“My friend, you know that I know you, so what’s eating you?” asked Wanda

“Um…after I left your house I went home and I…I received a call from Mangi’s dad,” then she took a deep breath and then continued. “He said…Er Mangi’s…she’s gone Wanda.”

Wanda didn’t get what Luntu meant by that. “OK, she’s gone where?” he asked.

“No Wanda! She’s gone! Dead OK! She’s dead I’ll never see her again. Ever!” Luntu was in tears.

Meanwhile Wanda didn’t believe what he was hearing but it was true. He didn’t know what to say. He just hugged her. Luntu asked Wanda if they could go to the park just to chill and Wanda didn’t mind. So they passed the spaza and didn’t even buy the sugar. They walked slowly hugging each other as they were on their way to the park. Finally they reached the park and they sat on the grass.

“This is…this is where I met her, Mangi, three years ago,” she smiled. “She was with her…with her friends, and Unathi, drunked! She came to me and asked if I’d like to join them, I wasn’t in a rush so I was like, why the hell not. So I joined them. She was so happy, cheerful. She charmed me from the very first day we met, here in this spot.” she said thinking of that day.

Wanda saw that Luntu was deep in thoughts so he kept quiet….

“Oh God how did…why did we break up like that? You know the very first day we meet she made me see the world differently. She basically created a new me,” now Luntu was back in tears. Wanda held her hand.

“She was a good person. You two had good times together,” said Wanda.

“Yeah. Thanks my friend for always being there when I needed you mostly,” said Luntu smiling at her friend.

“That’s what friends are for. So do you need sometime alone?” he asked

“Yeah, please. Five minutes only…thanks”

She lay on her back and thought of all the good times she had with Mangi. When love was still new and fresh. She even remembered their first kiss in Mangi’s room, how scared and nervous she was. But after that kiss she knew that Mangi was the one she wanted to be with. She even thought of her first time meeting Mangi’ mom, sister Londy, who she really got along well with. And she remembered How Mangi defended her from being attacked by her mom who never liked Luntu.

And then Luntu woke up and saw Wanda playing in the distance with a bunch of kids. And Wanda also looked up and saw Luntu looking at him, smiling then he went to her when he got there he realised that Luntu was crying because her eyes were red.

“Hey, are you OK?” he asked

“I don’t know, but let’s go before Gogo panics. So on their way back they didn’t think to buy some sugar, they were both in deep thoughts. They finally reached the house.

“There you’re,” said Gogo.

“Well where’s the sugar?” asked Pet but no one responded so she didn’t ask again

“Luntu, my door is always opened so don’t hesitate if you wanna come over,” said Gogo. Luntu just nodded

“OK then, take care. Bye Petunia,” she added and they all went, Liza, Wanda and Gogo.

Although Wanda didn’t want to go but he forced himself and once again Liza noticed something was up and once again, she kept quiet.

Tell us what you think: Do you think Luntu and Wanda have something going on?
