“Short left!” shouted Steven.

“Alright, a re theohe,” (let’s get off).

The two walked to Steven’s gate.

“Oh well, this place is not too bad. Go inside, drop your bag and come walk me to the taxi stop,” Onesi said.

Steven looked disappointed, “You’re already here. Don’t turn at the gate as if I didn’t welcome you. Come in and maybe you can greet my landlady, she’s very nice,”

Annoyed a bit but trying to hide it, Onesi said, “Hai Steven, I only wanted to see you get home safe. I also want to go home. Eish okay. But hayi suka!” The two laughed and Steven unlocked the gate.

Inside, the yard looked like it used to be a great place to hold small social gatherings back in the day. There was an old ruined swimming pool. A rusty corner which must have been the braai area. Onesi was not familiar with such sights. Although the place was old and rusty, Onesi imagined how great it must have been to live in such a home for the very first owner of that house.

“Ha ha ha. Hello! Come in!” Steven shouted and broke Onesi’s daydream.

“Welcome home,” he declared. As if the place didn’t look anything like its current state.
“This doesn’t look like a home. It looks like just a place where you live. Give me some water, I’ll pour it in my bottle,” said Onesi.

“Wow okay. Well, there is the tap in my unhomely home. You can get yourself the water. I’ll change into my attire and walk you out. From there I’ll walk straight to karate practice,” Steven said.
“Alright hurry tuu!” replied Onesi. Steven went to his bedroom to change.

After what seemed like forever Onesi called for Steven. He was quiet. Onesi looked outside the window and saw what must have been a cosy child swing and a dog house. Now it was all rusty.
Onesi checked the clock and said, “This is too much now, Steven!! Kanti, what are you doing? let’s go!”

It was quiet.

Onesi then went to the door which they used to get in. It was locked… and the key was with Steven. Now annoyed, Onesi went to bang on Steven’s door. “Heyiii what’s going on?! Can we go!”

Onesi started thinking that maybe Steven committed suicide in his room. She quickly panicked and banged the door louder. Surprisingly, Steven opened the door. He was calm and had a half smile.
He was wearing only boxers and no shirt.
