Present
The house looked fresh and new in the pink colours. Justin and Adelaide Dundaro bought the house after their three months of marriage. They had been staying with Justin’s cousin, Chichi, who was a bossy and naggy housemate. They were now busy packing their things after the movers brought their furniture.
“I still can’t believe we have our very own home,” she said jumping on the couch. Justin joined her and held her hands. He kissed her hands and sighed.
Cleo’s spirit stood by the wall, watching the new couple. He was no longer lonely. It’s been three years since anybody lived in the house. He watched them, thinking about his love for Jacqueline until someone murdered him. He wanted to marry her, but she was two timing him. He vanished to his burial site.
“You have a house now,” Justin said giving his wife a passionate kiss.
Justin is a business owner and Adelaide a data-capturer and she would love to further her career. Justin touches her belly and she pushes his hands away. She knows what he wanted to say. It makes her sad and she’d rather not talk about babies. It makes her really frustrated and so she stood up to go to the bathroom. Justin pulls her close before she enters through the bathroom door.
“When will we have a baby?” he sighs. He looks at her like a lost puppy that needs comforting. Adelaide pushes him but he holds her closer, blocking her so she won’t escape. She wants to cry and wishes she had answers.
“I want to bath and prepare dinner,” she says irritated.
Cleo thinks it’s a fight but soon realises that it’s not.
Justin follows Adelaide. He doesn’t want to force her. They have been dating for three years and he thought Adelaide would have a child after six months into marriage as they agreed. A year has passed and pregnancy has been a sensitive issue lately.
Adelaide sits on her bed and pulls out her purse. Tears roll down her cheeks as she takes out a picture of her unborn baby. She wishes it was easy to tell Justin. Cleo can read her thoughts and he sits close to her and rubs Adelaide’s shoulder. She gets frightened as she feels something and jumps up letting the picture fall from her fingers.
“I am sorry it’s me… it’s me Cleo…but you have to tell him,” he says calmly with his hands up. Adelaide doesn’t hear a thing but she feels something. She browses the room and realises she’s alone. She picks the picture and puts it back into her purse, but Cleo’s spirit sinks back into the ground sadly.
Justin walks in and sits close to her.
“What about supper? Are you sleeping now?” he asks.
She wasn’t sleeping but crying out in her heart. The loss of her baby makes her feel incomplete.
