Mfana was a 15-year-old boy who lived in a town called The Deserted with his single mother and older sister. He used to walk to school every day for more than an hour and he was a smart but shy learner. It was hard for him to make new friends or play sports at school.

Every Friday after school, Mfana would go to Makhosi to visit his grandparents. One day, as he was taking a walk, he went past three girls who were sitting down chatting. They seemed to be gossiping about him as he went by, and this made him feel insecure. He got home and saw a Facebook message from a girl named Lisa. Like Mfana, 13-year-old Lisa was extremely shy. She lived in Makhosi, which was more than two hours away from where Mfana lived.

“Hi, I think I just saw you walk past me and I realised you were one of my Facebook friends.”

When Mfana asked where Lisa had seen him, she explained that she was one of the three girls he had passed, and described what he was wearing at the time. Mfana confirmed it was him. They had never chatted on Facebook until that day. He started stalking Lisa on Facebook and was amazed by her beauty. It was like he was seeing such beauty for the first time in his entire life, but he was too shy to tell her that.

They started chatting and getting to know each other. The conversation was smooth because they had much in common. Lisa could not stop talking to her friends about Mfana, and they soon realised that she liked Mfana. His name always put a smile on her face. They tried convincing her to ask Mfana if they could meet but she refused.
She finally texted him and he was very excited but nervous to know that Lisa wanted to meet him. Mfana cleaned himself up quickly and even used his aunt’s perfume to smell the part. Lisa saw Mfana waiting for her but she panicked and ran away. Her friends tried calming her down, but she was just too shy to meet her crush, whom she did not know was just as nervous as she was.

After a few attempts, they finally met. They both admitted that they were nervous and began to get more comfortable. They started talking and expressing the feelings they had for each other. They couldn’t help but smile and blush the whole time.
