Hazel and Shawn had been together for a while when one day she bumped into Jacob, her ex-boyfriend. He greeted her, acting like they were still together, but Hazel wasn’t having any of it. She told him that they were no longer together and did he forget that he was the one who left her? When she turned to leave, Jacob grabbed her hand and told her that she would be sorry for not taking him back. Hazel had heard the stories about Jacob abusing his exes doing the rounds in their community when they were together but she never paid them any mind. Looking at Jacob twisting her hand, she knew for a fact that those stories were true.

Hazel was shaking out of anger but told herself that she wouldn’t let Jacob have the satisfaction of seeing that he scared her. He begged her to give him another chance and told her that he made a mistake, that he still loved her and didn’t want to be without her. His words were sweet but the look in his eyes was dead and evil. Hazel politely told him that she had moved on and wasn’t interested in getting back together with him. She pulled her hand free from his grip and started walking relatively fast but he followed her. He then grabbed her waist from behind, turned her around to face him and kissed her. Hazel was caught off guard and didn’t know what to do so she kissed Jacob back.

She had dreamt of times like that ever since he dumped her, but not like that. She didn’t want Jacob back, she was with Shawn now. Hazel then abruptly pushed Jacob away, she told him that she had moved on turned and left to go home. When she arrived at home, Hazel saw on her phone that Shawn had texted her, three times already. The messages were about how he missed and loved her. Shawn wanted to know where she was and why she wasn’t answering her phone. Hazel then texted him back to let him know that she was at home and apologised for replying that late.

She found herself quite confused when she went to bed that night. She didn’t know what was happening with her anymore. She wasn’t the sort of person to cheat on someone she was in a relationship with, but she was apprehensive about telling Shawn about the incident with Jacob. At a point in time she wanted Jacob back and now that he wanted her back, she was with Shawn. How on earth was she supposed to deal with that?

She was getting more confuse about Jacob. Her heart reminded her about the love she bore Shawn. This was a disaster, she thought. At work the next couple of days she avoided Shawn wherever she could. She hoped that he wouldn’t notice her behaviour. Shawn approached Hazel one day, he wanted to know if she was OK because he had noticed that she wasn’t her normal self. But Hazel told him that she was just fine and that he had nothing to worry about. Shawn believed her and left it at that. They made plans for dinner that evening and both went back to work.

Hazel found herself between wanting to move on with the man she now loved and being pulled back to the past by the man she once loved. After all the bad things that Jacob had done, Hazel still love him, for her it was difficult to accept because all she wanted to do was to move on. At dinner that evening, Hazel decided to not pay any mind to Jacob and her feelings for him, she was determined to move on with her life. Shawn loved her and treated her like a queen and she was happy with him.

After dinner, Shawn and Hazel went their separate ways home. As hazel waked home she thought about what possibilities the future held for her where Shawn was concerned. As she walked and daydreamed, she didn’t realise Jacob was following her. He grabbed her arm from behind and demanded to know where she was coming from that time of the night.

Hazel felt that she had had just about enough of Jacob and his attitude; she told him that her comings and goings were none of his business. He was so angry she saw but before Hazel could think of anything else, Jacob dragged her protesting and screaming to his car, which was parked just around the corner from where they stood.

Hazel told Jacob that she had to go home and that her mother would be worried if she didn’t arrive home the time she said she would. But Jacob ignored her and kept on driving. Fear filled Hazel’s senses as she realised that Jacob wasn’t going to take her home. He told her that it was high time that he got what he wanted from her, and that if she wasn’t willing to give it willingly, he would have to take it by force. Hazel knew what that meant and the entire drive to Jacobs’s house she thought of a way of escaping from him. But when they arrived he grabbed her by the hair and dragged her kicking and screaming into his house.
