Thabo was lying on the bed with Winnie by his side. They had spent the whole day cooped up in bed. He only took a bath early in the morning. He wanted to chat but Winnie eyed him when he looked at his smartphone screen. He would slide it and pretend to relieve himself in the bathroom. Winnie held him and begged him to sleep with her. But he wanted fresh fruit, as they say. To him, women are fruits which change flavours in his mouth. He wants a different fruit every day. His phone beeped when Winnie was sleeping with her head on his chest.
“Baby, how are you my love?” he asked. Winnie stared at him jealously.
“I am good, Thabo. Home is not good without you,” Cici answered.
“Don’t worry babe, I will visit soon,” he said and got up, leaving Winnie in the bed.
“I hope you are not with someone,” she said.
“I wouldn’t, you know I love you. I am doing it for you and our child,” he said chuckling.
“Please resign ,so we can stay together,” she begged.
Winnie stood up and grabbed the phone. She dropped the call by pressing the red reject button.
“Winnie, are you crazy?” he shouted.
“You are a liar. You still love her, don’t you?” she asked.
Thabo couldn’t answer and went out slamming the door. Winnie put the phone on the bed and clicked her tongue. The phone started to ring again. She answered it and didn’t speak. Cici spoke ‘Hello’ a lot of times.
“Leave my man alone. He said he doesn’t love you,” Winnie shouted and threw the phone on bed. She threw her hands in her face. She then lay down to sleep.
Cici heard a woman answering her phone, she was angry and kept calling hoping Thabo would answer.
Thabo came back holding two takeaways. Winnie was asleep. He ate alone and slept far away from her. He was tired of being controlled. The women thought when he proclaimed his love that they owned him. He smiled and thought it wasn’t a big deal. He had to sleep as he had an early shift.
He woke up before 6am and bathed, and then dressed in his uniform. He left before Winnie woke up.
His workmates were happy to see him back. They all hugged him except Zain, the coloured girl. He had made a move on her and she had refused then he had threatened her. Since the incident she alway hated him so they never spoke to one another.
He kept smiling at her but she wouldn’t smile back, she only looked at him with hatred. Thabo tried to call Cici, but she wouldn’t pick up the phone. She had sent a message enquiring who answered his phone. Thabo thought Winnie must go, she was causing conflicts between him and his wife.
He went to Theresa’s after work instead of returning home. She didn’t question his motives. Theresa treated him well. She was very happy to see him. She prepared dinner and they ate together.
“You are a wonderful lady,” he said appreciatively.
“Thanks, babe, you could have come sooner,” she said sitting on his legs.
“I think I will move in with you,” he said sincerely.
“I would love that,” she said and kissed his lips.
One thing led to another. His phone kept beeping but he ignored it. It was Winnie who wanted to know where he was but he didn’t care at all.
The next day he woke up so he could go home. Theresa woke up too. He was dressing in his clothes.
“Morning,b abe,” she said.
“Oh babe, morning,” he kissed her lips.
“Didn’t you say you’ve got a afternoon shift?” she asked.
“I want to change my uniform,” he answered.
“Okay,I understand. Promise you will sleep here tonight though,” she said.
“OK,” he said blowing her a kiss.
He closed the door, Theresa smiled and went back to sleep.
Thabo arrived home. Theresa stays in the same neighbourhood, just a few streets away from his home. He found Winnie sitting with some neighbours.
“Baby,I missed you,” she said hugging him.
He greeted his neighbours and walked inside his room.
“Where have you been?” she shouted after closing the door.
“Winnie, you need to go,” he said angrily.
“What? I am not going anywhere,” she said furiously.
“You will,” he said grabbing her bag.
He took all her things and packed them into her bag. Winnie laughed loudly thinking it’s a joke. When he looked at the door, someone opened it. It was Adishal.
“What are you doing here?” he asked walking towards the door.
“Who is she?” she asked walking towards them.
“I am a woman, can’t you see?”s he asked puzzled.
“Thabo, quickly answer who is she?” Winnie shouted.
“He said he loves me and we had sex on that bed,” Adishal answered.
Winnie grabbed her bags and pushed Adishal aside. She walked away. Adishal looked at him, he is embarrassed. He looked at the ground with no words coming out. He looked outside then he saw his neighbours staring at his door.
He knows it so embarrassing to be caught cheating on so many women. Adishal walked away, he followed her.
“Please forgive me. I really love you,” he said remorsefully.
Adishal walked back into his room. He closed the door so his neighbours couldn’t see. They talked for an hour, Adishal wanted answers. Finally he got her number that he could call her. He left his room and went to Theresa who didn’t know what had happened. All he wanted was to forget.
Tell us what you think: Do you think that Thabo’s behaviour is right?
