Cynthia entered Bright’s office with a bang. Bright was busy at the time, he even ignored Cynthia every day.

“What’s the problem?” he asked while he sorted papers.

“What’s going on with us?” she asked.

Bright took a breath and stared at Cynthia. He stood up holding his chin and walked close to where Cynthia sat.

“I am back with my wife. You and I were just playing,” he said, annoyed.

“That can’t happen,” she said, shocked.

“It has happened hasn’t it?” he sat down. “Now leave my office,” he shouted.

Cynthia stood up. “Tsk,” she clicked her tongue and left angrily. Bright watched as she left and shook his head. His life changed after his dad spoke to him. All he wanted was a normal life and a happy marriage. He worked for a hotel doing their finances. He earned a lot of money. He decided to buy something for his wife and visit home.

He met John who came from the same village. They chatted for a long time. John told Bright he was going to visit his family soon. He decided to visit him to save money, even if he had no money problems.

Bright sorted his accounting, a phone rang . His mother said his wife had a baby boy. He rejoiced, even his workmates were amazed by the way he screamed at the top of his voice.

The day had come to go to see his wife he had brought groceries and some baby things. He brought his wife 3 suits and 2 dresses and shoes. He couldn’t wait to be with his wife alone, no one disturbing him and worse there was a new baby.

Melody greeted her son after John dropped him. They went inside and saw Jessica with no belly. He hugged his wife and heard the baby cry. He smiled that a baby has brought so much joy to his life.

The feeling of guilt made Bright feel more hurt about what he had done to the poor girl. He couldn’t remove that feeling. It was complicating his life. The next day he had been called to audit for a supermarket. He was happy this would keep the feelings of guilt and hatred upon his brother off his mind.

The day was long. Being exhausted, he went for lunch. He needed a breather. He stared at the food. He was hungry but couldn’t swallow it. He ordered it in a takeaway. He walked to his office down the street.

He carried on his work as usual. After 5 p.m. he went straight to the bar. He had banned himself, but now he needed something to keep his mind off things.

A woman flirted with him, he stared at her. He grabbed her with his hands and kissed the woman, who whispered something in his ear and they walked out. They went to his flat. He unlocked the door. The woman began to kiss him and strip him of his clothes. One thing led to another and next thing he knew, they were on the bed naked. The woman’s head lay on his chest while he held her in his arms.

He fell asleep and didn’t know how it happened. Anxiously, he wanted to know where he was, he woke up sensing that something was wrong. He saw the woman sleeping beside him. He woke her up.

“It’s time for you to leave,” he whispered.

“We can have another round,” she said, trying to touch him. He quickly shoved her hands away.

“Leave.” he shouted.

The woman grabbed her clothes and dressed while Bright stared at her. He wanted her to leave. The feeling of guilt was controlling him.

“My money?” she begged.

Bright sighed and took his wallet and handed out a five-dollar note. The woman went away. He locked the door. He couldn’t believe he was going back to the ways of his father and ancestors. He wanted to be the man who loved his wife. Guilt-tripping in his mind, he stared at the clock, it was quarter to five. He had to sleep so he could finish the auditing.

Since that day, he couldn’t stop sleeping with women. Bright picked up prostitutes. He would send money home and spoke rudely to Jessica. He was only happy to speak about Benny, his son, nothing more.
