Roshell was damn furious to hear from her husband that Gladys had been promoted to supervisor. Roshell rushed to Marry Mokgotho, one of her neighbours to share the news with her.
Marry was Roshell’s best friend. She told her everything. Both Marry and Roshell didn’t like Gladys’s. They liked seeing her struggling even though she was kind to them, they hated her for no reason, but fortunately things seemed to be going well in Gladys’s life no matter the struggles she faced.
Prince was concerned about how his mom would handle work and attend university but his mom said to him, “Prince it’s possible my son, remember it’s part time studies not full-time so when I am off, I will focus on my studies.”
Four years later, everyone was amazed at work when Gladys shared the good news with eyes filled with tears of joy that she finally passed her Bachelor of Education with five distinctions. Prince was over the moon to hear such good news from his mom. He even told her how he’d brag about her at his school. Her boss Michael and colleagues were so happy for her, one even asked her how she did it, both working and studying.
Gladys replied genuinely, “Every one of us can makes a huge difference if we only choose to believe in ourselves and never give up. It wasn’t easy studying in a small shack with no electricity; it was difficult, hard as stone, but I had to fuel myself with a positive attitude. When you have a goal and, more importantly, a desire to attain it, deficiency won’t be an obstacle for you.”
Roshell didn’t buy Gladys’s success story, she even told Marry that she didn’t believe that Gladys was the one who was doing all the assignments, tests or writing the exams herself. They believed her beauty worked for as she they thought she was after Roshell’s husband. They even thought she used her beauty to get men do everything for her.
Gladys was to attend an interview for a teaching post and everyone wished her luck except the two witches, instead they wished that she could be interviewed by women instead of men because they believed that men would be charmed by her beauty instead of the qualities she possessed.
Three months later, Gladys surprised her boss with a resignation letter to the company she worked at for 14 long years. Michael was sad and happy at the same that one of his employees was taking another route of life. He wished her a fruitful journey in her new teaching career and to be humble and caring like she was in his company. Gladys was glad and sad to leave her lovely company and generous boss, but it was time for her to live her dream as a professional teacher.
