The weekend was bliss. Trey had been so romantic but on the last day he acted funny because Amanda was going to be leaving soon. He had other plans.

“Please don’t leave…Can’t you extend your stay?” he begged her.

They had just woken up and sat in bed. Amanda had packed her things while he was sleeping. She stayed indoors because he warned her of dangerous animals outside. There was long, dry grass and one couldn’t see clearly what was under it. Amanda would watch through the window. She only saw a glimpse of an empty can skittering across the road, blown by a gust of wind. If not cans, then grass and papers were blown across.

“You still want me here?” she asked in shock.

He held her hands, kissed her cheek and went down her neck.

“OK fine, I will spend two days more, then leave,” she gasped.

“Thank you, darling, but I will go to work today and come back early,” he said and kissed her cheek again.

He rushed out to bath, and dressed quickly.

“Cook anything you like but I will make dinner later,” he said loudly as he rushed out of the door.

The house was too big for her, she felt the evilness in it, but she ignored her feelings and bathed. She looked through the windows while wiping her hair and saw a puppy sitting on the veranda. She quickly dressed, she needed the air too. He had warned her of vicious animals but she decided to disobey. What harm would happen anyway? she thought. She ran off down the stairs then noticed there was no key in the door. She tried to open it and it was locked. She was terrified: why would he lock her inside?

“Where did he put the keys?”

She searched for them on the couch and floor. They were nowhere to be found.

“Why did he lock the door? I need to call him!” She rushed to the stairs.

She remembered that Trey didn’t return her phone and when she looked up she saw the door that gave her creeps. She opened it slowly. It was dark on the other side. She lit a candle and walked slowly down the steps.

Is this a room? she asked herself. There were spiderwebs and she couldn’t see what was inside except wooden beams that held the roof above. She took one step at a time staring into the darkness until she met a switch and pressed it.

The light flashed and revealed everything.

“What is Trey hiding in here?” she asked herself.

She remembered him closing the door quickly so she wouldn’t ask about it. He was definitely hiding something. What could it be?

There were two deep freezers and a table strained with of blood. There was a big knife on one corner. She felt her stomach turn: the knots were making her sick. Maybe he hunts, she though, trying to push her fear away.

She saw clothes with blood strains and she opened one freezer. The shock kept rooted her to the spot. Her body shivered at what she saw: there were frozen bodies. When she could bring herself to look, she found that the other freezer contained hearts, livers, and kidneys.

“No, this can’t be,” she breathed. She screamed when she saw rats at her feet. She didn’t want to be caught in here. She rushed back and closed the door behind her.

“Oh God, what the hell! I need to call Charlotte!”

She went upstairs in search of her phone, but couldn’t find it.

“Damn it!” she breathed hoarsely, her body shivering.

Her mind was working overtime, thinking of what Trey was up to. Never mind the puppy: she needed to run. She looked for her wallet; it was gone along with all her cards and ID.

“Trey is a murderer, I need to run before he kills me too,” she said aloud, her heart palpitating.

She grabbed her bag and looked for a way out. The front door was locked and the back door had a screen that was locked too.

“I am going to die, oh God, please help me escape!”

She leaned on the wall, breathing heavily. Fear had taken over and the romantic weekend had turned to horror. She heard a car approaching. I have to run! I will break the window, she thought. To her surprise, it was so old that she could force it without breaking the glass. She grabbed her bag and slithered out, hiding behind a big container at the back of the house. The car was getting closer. Then she heard the engine die down.

“I hope she has some assets, boy, you make money. I like your choices, you are good at the job,” said a tall man with a scar below his eye. He slapped Trey’s shoulder.

“Just wait and see,” Trey chuckled and the two men entered the house.
