“Huh,” Nerdy chuckled in spite. He always had distrust for Rodney’s dullard projects. Rodney not being sure about one element of his plan was enough for him to dismiss the validity of this project.

Nerdy was a short, pale and scrawny boy with short blonde hair. He always had bangs, which made him look Nerdy before you actually witnessed that he actually was a nerd.

“Rodney I’m not sure about this, it’s scary,” Richie said grabbing a rag and reaching the marking to erase it.

Rodney jumped up and grabbed Richie’s arms.

“Please man, let me do this.” He looked around and saw the unconvinced faces of the others, “Look man, I feel good about this one, took me time to find this one, bro.”

“This one?” Richie rolled his eyes in realization. “Is this another one of those portals to another dimension fiascos?”

“It’s not a fiasco it’s real!” Rodney protested, his cheeks burning red.

“Remember when he did one in the school science lab but ended up electrocuting Mr White?” Noobie reminded them, “Or when he burnt down the church and Old Al said it was because he’s a ginger and gingers are soulless, or when he…”

“Shut up, Noobie!” Both Rodney and Richie yelled at him.

“… Blew up the storage at the library,” Noobie finished with a low embarrassed voice.

“After this one doesn’t work, you’ll never try again, okay?” Richie said furiously pointing at Rodney’s face.

“Deal!” Rodney said and immediately bent down to finish up his markings.

“That was too quick,” Noobie said and kicked out his feet shyly.

“What?” Rodney asked, tired.

“It was too quick, that means you didn’t mean it,” Noobie said avoiding Rodney’s eyes.

“You really are crazy, huh,” Rodney said annoyed.

“I’m not crazy, Mom says I’m special,” Noobie said brushing back his short brown bangs.

“Can you please!” Rodney said, “I’m trying to finish.”

“That’s rude,” Noobie whispered in Nerdy’s ear.

“Okay, good,” Rodney said and stood up.

He pulled out a plastic packet out of his bag and opened it. He pulled out a smaller bag inside that had salt inside, he spilled the salt on the circumference of the circle carefully and closed the bag. He pulled out another plastic packet and took out crystal-like substances.

“What’s that?” Richie asked vigilant.

“Quartz,” Rodney said without mind.

“Where’d you get quartz?” Nerdy asked.

“Vic got it for me,” Rodney said with a grin to his accomplice.

All the others turned to look at Vic, judgingly. He shrugged and smiled mischievously.

“And where in Sam hell did you find quartz?” Nerdy asked with his hands on his hips, he looked like an old man.

Vic chuckled mischievously and shrugged quickly as if he’d done nothing.

“Okay, I’m ready,” Rodney said, with a printout of a picture from a page of a tome.

“Ahem, ragu arman ha…”

“Hey, hey, hey, wait!” Rodney was starting the incantation before interrupted by Richie.

“What is this thing going to do?” He asked, trying not to step on the salt while walking toward him.

“Relax, I’ve got this,” Rodney said with his dimple visible.

He continued his incantation until the inscription between the inner and the outer circle glowed in a bright red colour. All the other boys except Rodney and Vic jumped back in fright. Vic got up from the chair and began to investigate. He opened his eyes in amusement.

Rodney proceeded to spew out the words from the page. When he was finished, all the markings and circles were glowing red.

“Step back,” Rodney commanded now with flint and steel.

He clanked them together, and sparks came out and after the third clank, the portal activated. It glowed a bright spiralling red like a vortex.

“I knew it!” He stood and laughed maliciously. “I’m a mad genius, I’m inevitable, I am a necromancer!”

Rodney crouched again and reached out towards the portal.

“Don’t touch it!” Richie screamed reaching towards Rodney trying to pull him back but he was too late.

Red luminescent veins showed up from his hand reaching up to his face. He yelled in fright then imploded, red flakes fell down from the air all around the room.

The room now without Rodney or the flakes was quiet, the boys stood in a trance not really sure what to do or say next. Nerdy stood in a hurry and ran out and the others followed, they ran out of the house in pure fear of what they had witnessed.
