“Uhm Mr Benard, you can go back to the audience seats now, the awards are closing,” a voice said softly. I looked and it was the stage announcer; he was alive. But how? I looked to the audience and they were all alive. I felt confused. I saw everyone killed here, was it a vision or what? I thought as I went back and sat down.

“What’’s wrong? You looked like you’ve seen a ghost,” Pam asked.

“I… I was just thinking of something,” I responded unsure.

What I saw could have been a vision. It felt like it lasted for more than twenty five minutes and yet it was just a mere ten seconds in reality. Wait a second, before I got that vision I saw someone that looked exactly like Mr Jacob’s son. Perhaps my mind was just playing tricks on me or maybe the side effects of the energy drug were reoccurring all over again. I’ll have to go and check myself up, I thought to myself.

“How’s the plan coming along boss?” A tall muscular guy asked.

“Everything is going according to plan. Have you set up the explosives on that building that I referred you to?” A short, thin guy with black hair asked.

“Yes I did. It’s gonna look like a terrorist attack,” he responded.

“With Justin partially under my control, the world will bow down to me,” the short thin guy exclaimed.

“But before that, I want to kill the person who killed my father. I’m gonna make her son feel the pain that I endured when my father died because of her,” the short thin guy added.

“Well, both will most certainly not see it coming,” the muscular guy exclaimed.

“I don’t care if both do or not. The fact remains that I’m going to eliminate all those that were behind my father’s death.”

“I still think that it’s ridiculous, why can’t we just kill them now?” the muscular guy asked.

“Are you questioning my decisions?” the short thin guy asked with a threatening look.

“No Sir, forgive me,” the muscular guy bowed down on his knees apologetically.

“Good, now leave me alone. I need some time to think,” the short thin guy commanded.

“Right away Sir,” the muscular guy nodded as he went out of the room.

The short thin guy looked outside of the window at the sunset on the mountains. He couldn’t figure out how his dad lost to those weaklings. One thing was for certain, he was not going to undermine anyone of them.

I woke up from bed and gazed at Pam, who was still sleeping. She looked so peaceful. I got out of bed slowly and quietly, so not to wake her up. I headed to the bathroom and took a shower. I started to think of what the doctor said to me when I went for a check-up; about whether the vision that I had, was caused by the side effects of the energy drug or not.

“Your body is perfectly fine, nothing to worry about. You were just daydreaming that’s all,” was what the doctor had said.

Well it had been ten days since that had happened, perhaps I was just daydreaming, I thought to myself. I got dressed and picked up my school bag. My books fell out, causing Pam to wake up with a confused look.

“You’re already awake?” she asked.

“Yeah sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up.” I responded as I sat on the bed. She smiled at me.

“You should change your timetable so you don’t attend so early in the morning,” she said jokingly and I laughed.

“Hey I’m not nocturnal like you; I prefer going to class early rather than at night. I would probably sleep through the whole session,” I replied and she giggled.

“Well, at least it’s the last day and then it’s the holidays,” she exclaimed. I smiled automatically.

“Yeah, we’ll have the whole holiday to ourselves,” I responded with a wink.

“Well, I was thinking of going back home for this holiday,” she said softly.

“Where? Stallian?”

“Yeah, I was thinking that it’s time to tell my father that we’re together,” she muttered. My smile vanished in an instant.

“Pam, we’ve talked about this before. I’m black and you’re white. Your dad will never accept me,” I responded.

“So you want our relationship to stay a secret?”

“No. We’ll tell him when the time is right. Maybe when I’ve become a successful lawyer, your dad will accept me,” I reasoned, unsure.

“You’re just finding an excuse not to meet up with my father again,” she fumed.

“Eish. Look, can we do this some other time? I’ve really got to go to class now. I’ll see you later,” I kissed her on her forehead and walked out.

Outside of the res, I received a message. Beep beep beeeep. My Nokia X2 vibrated. I‘ve got to get a new phone, I thought to myself as I opened the message and read.

Death of a loved one is excruciatingly painful, especially when it’s caused by someone you know.

My heart started to beat faster after reading the message. I looked at the number that sent it and I didn’t recognise it. I called it.

“The subscriber you have dialled is not available at present. Please try again later,” the voice said.

It must be one of those stupid people that like to scare others with this kind of messages, I thought to myself.
