On his first day at his new school, Thabo told me the class had already started when he got in. Without paying much attention to him, the teacher told Thabo to find a seat. The learners were very quiet and they just glanced at him then focused on the chalk board. He swiftly sat on a seat that was in mid front and put his Physical Sciences textbook on the desk.

“Hi, what page is that on?” He asked the girl he was probably going to spend the rest of the academic year sitting next to.

“Hey, page 42,” she said in a soft voice. He hadn’t had a good look at her when he went to sit down owing it to his hurriedness to be seated.

“I am Thabo by the way,” he said looking at her profile.

“I’m Onele,” she peeked at him and smiled.

She had long maroon braids that settled on her shoulders. Her dimpled smile was so pretty that Thabo wished she could not stop smiling. Her skin seemed smooth and light as if the sunlight missed catching it during hot days.

When God created her He surely never forgot to put a full stop. He thought to himself as his eyes focused on the mole which was on the left side of her upper lip.

OK class, do activity 4.1

Thabo took his classwork book from his back pack which nested behind his back on the chair. He says if he wasn’t repeating the class, he wouldn’t have known how to do the exercise due to being destructed by the beauty beside him.

After about a month at his new school sitting next to Onele, he had spent countless nights rehearsing phrases that would sweep her off her feet. Finally he got the courage to ask Onele to wait for him after school.

“Mhhh OK, why though? I mean you’ve been in the school for almost a month to be afraid of walking home alone,” she said with a giggle.

“I just feel like taking a walk home with my desk mate today. Maybe get to know her outside the academic environment.”

“What if she prefers it this way then?” she asked continuing to copy notes from the chalk board.

“Then we will have more than enough to talk about after school.”

The final bell rang. Soon after, there was a high volume of noise on the corridors made by learners. Thabo and Onele put their stationaries in their back packs.

“At least school wasn’t boring today,” Onele said as they were walking out of the school gate.

“Indeed, anyway there’s something I want to tell you,” Thabo said folding his hands.

“OK…. What’s up?”

“I have deep feelings for you,”

“What kind of feelings?” She stopped walking.

“I love you. From the first time I laid my eyes on you.”

“Just like that?”

“What do you mean ‘just like that’?” he asked a bit disappointed.

“I don’t know may be I wasn’t expecting you to say this,”

“Now that I’ve said it, what do you say? Can we try out?”

“Give me time guy, I’ll give you my answer tomorrow,” she said as she began walking away from Thabo.

“OK, fair enough.”

They walked together. On the way they talked about their school work and how boring some teachers are until they got to a four way intersection. They said their good byes and walked in opposite directions.

The next day at school they didn’t say much to each other. Thabo caught her looking at him a couple of times. She would make excuses to touch him.

“These two are in love,” apparently one girl said to her desk mate. I forgot this girl’s name, anyway she does not play a major role in Thabo’s story.

After school Thabo paced up to catch up with Onele who was a few feet in front of him.

“I meant what I said yesterday,” said Thabo.

“I believe you.”

“So?”

“I feel the same.”

Thabo swore his heart stopped beating for a moment after hearing these four words. Everything went smooth between them onwards they had a happy relationship, at least this is what Thabo claims he thought.
