When everybody woke up the next day, they saw flames destroying the farm. Twenty-five years of hard work was completely destroyed. The fire fighters tried their best to defuse the fire, but the damage was already done.

“What happened here, detective?” Denise immediately got out of his car.

“We called the fire expert to check, but it seems like there was an explosion inside that farm house, and it caused everything to go up in flames,” explained the police officer.

The farm was burnt to ashes, and there was no trace of what really happened.

In the Zondo living room, Denise told them what happened. The Zondos were in shock. Sipho could finally believe that his days on earth were coming to an end: his lifelong hard work was gone.

“Who the hell did that? Our farm couldn’t have just caught on fire,” said Sipho, in utter disbelief. “My entire life has flashed before my very own eyes.”

“Sipho, please, calm down. This is not good for your health. You might make yourself sick,” said Naledi.

“Dad, Mom is right. You need to calm down.” Denise said, “The police believe it was an explosion from inside.” He paused for a minute.

“Why are you so quiet, Denise?” curiosity struck Naledi.

“Do you think…” he thought again before continuing. “Do you think he could’ve done it?” Denise finally asked.

“Who, Denise? What are you saying?” Naledi asked, very impatiently.

“Danny.” Denise said his name out loud. He hoped it was enough to remind everyone what Danny said. “He said if you refused to give him the legacy, he would destroy it…”

It was then that Danny entered the house, acting very concerned.

“I heard from the farmers that the farm caught on fire. What happened?” He sounded genuinely concerned.

They all just looked at him.

“You tell us, Danny,” shouted Sipho.

Danny looked confused.

“Don’t look so confused! You said you were going to destroy us, didn’t you?” Sipho yelled.

“I just said that out of anger. You didn’t think I’d actually go and do it, do you?” his mouth was left wide open.

“You know, Danny, I know this whole legacy thing didn’t sit well with you, but for you to do this to us, after everything we did for you!!” shouted Naledi.

“I repeat again, I didn’t do it! Mom, how can you not believe me? It’s me, Danny,” he said, defensively.

“I wish I could believe you, Danny.” responded Sipho. “You threatened us, now our farm has burnt to ashes. You know, all my life, I regarded you as a son. Your mother wronged us and we forgave her. But now, being betrayed by you…this will kill me before the cancer can…” he continued.

“You know what? I’m tired of being side-lined and accused of something I didn’t do. In fact, whoever did this, did right by me! You betrayed me and you deserve everything that you are going through, and more!” Danny yelled, lacking remorse. His parents were shocked and wondered where he got this dark side from as he stormed out of their house.

Denise didn’t seem too satisfied, he glanced at his parents’ faces. “I’m not going to let this go. If Danny destroyed our legacy, I will destroy him too.”

Do you think Danny started the fire? If it wasn’t him, who do you think it was?

Danny claims he didn’t start the fire. Have you ever been accused of something you didn’t do? How did that make you feel?
