I am a Boscia Albitrunca
My roots dig deep into the soil
I search for what I want like there is no tomorrow.
I am the descendant of Hitsa
Lower your heads
As I mentioned, the great king.
I was introduced to my ancestors
With bloodshed.
Look at me!

Admire my colourful beads
As each colour decorates my chocolate skin.
Come admire me as much as I admire myself.
Come and fascinate yourself
As I let my tongue click when I speak.
Admire me when I speak words
That only twists your tongue
Some say it’s rude
But I say it’s specific
It’s not interpreted
Can you hear me!
Come, listen as I brag about who we are

We are queens with their own kingdoms.
Our crowns can only be placed on a married woman’s head
They don’t see its beauty
But know its value.
We call it Isiqhovu
The crown of a Xhosa queen
A queen with her own castle
Whose castle is her house
Do you know me now?

Come, watch me!
When I stamp my feet like they are itchy.
When I dance like there is a herd of elephants
Passing, following the scent of water
I awake dust when I dance.
If it does not rise
I haven’t done nothing.

This is who I am!
I come from the north
I descend from a searcher.
Those who searched for a rich soil
So they can plant their seeds
So they can start the fight against weeds.

Pride!
They say I’m filled with ego.
But I say…
“No its pride.”
Its swimming in my chest
Like an overflowing ocean.
I am who I am
Because of who they were.

Pride!
I sucked it from my mother’s breast
So it is imprinted in my genes.

This is who I am
I am a harvest of their seeds.
