We are driving slow through the snow.
On the fifth avenue, and right now, the radio
All that we hear is, “Man, we haven’t talked since it’s overdue.”
It’s cold outside but between us the world slows
Down but my heart beats fast.

The black girl’s tear has
Fallen, fallen because of fear
Fallen because of pain.
And right now this is the part where the end starts,
I can’t take it any longer
Though we are stronger all we do is linger
Slipping through the fingers.

And I wonder how can your parents be so cruel,
How do you eat, knowing that your child is on the street,
Doing nothing, eating nothing and you are so heartless
Wearing new jeans every day knowing that
Your child’s life is so lost like a jewel dropped
In dry sand waiting for the wind to blow it away.
