Mother, why have you forsaken us,
Your black children?
We’re hungry, yet you give us bread crumbs to swallow.
Even though your table is full of fine wines
And all kinds of pleasantries
Your favorite sons eat like kings
But you chase us around the mountain
Like we’re baboons
Without hearts, and without souls
Look at us, what do you see?
Human beings or animals?

Our lives have been invaded by winds of poverty
Currents of depression have left us too vulnerable to speak.
Rocks of the discrimination have left us destitute
and without good hope
It’s like you enjoy seeing us in this state.
Tears falling like raindrops.
Mother, come to our defense, for once,
before it’s too late.
