Today I walked by the park
Wondering what I’ll do after class
Then a group of boys passed by,
To my surprise they called out my name.
Wait! Was that who I really was?

UGLY!
Hey UGLY!
That’s what they called me by.
I turned around and faced right at their side.
Still wondering why they called me that.

My thoughts quickly burst as I heard them laugh and then they said, “She really is ugly guys.”
As they were passing by
I stood sheepishly, foolishly,
My name repeating like a melody in my head.
Quickly my thoughts caught me back and fast I ran
Couldn’t wait to get home, where I was never called that!
UGLY!

In my mirror I stood still staring that ugly face, staring back
There it smiled with tears shinning bright
Hey! I greeted ugly back

Hey UGLY!

She smiled at me and just something in her eyes caught me
Her eyes defined her, defined her name
In her eyes words were:
Unique
Gifted
Lovely
Young
That’s what UGLY meant.

Well! Joy poured in her heart
Peace formed in her mind
Confidence found by her side.

Hey UGLY!

That’s who she was and damn! was she proud of that.
